Topic: Star Parodier or Soldier Blade?

I hear that both are excellent games, but which one should I download first? I'm a huge SHMUP fan and Blazing Lazers was the first VC SHMUP I downloaded. I know they both are a lot of fun. But is Star Parodier way too easy? And which one will last longer?

I wouldn't classify either one as easy, though since there's continues available until you don't feel like continuing it's all relative.

I have both and they're both enjoyable. I cannot answer the question as to duration because I've not played either through to completion...

Star Parodier is the better option.

Better graphics/environments, better sound. It's just a better game in each and every category.
I like Soldier Blade but I wouldn't even put it in the same league.
As for duration, I think they're about the same. Whichever one you find more difficult with probably take longer to beat, and that'd probably be Soldier Blade.

And no Star Parodier is not too easy. lol
Beating it on normal is no cake walk and beating it on hard is just silly.
I actually had to beat it on easy my first time because I got frustrated with normal.
It is slightly easier than Solider Blade, so if you're looking for difficulty, go with that.

Since you asked, I would get Super Star Soldier for the best gaming. You hear raves about Soldier Blade but gameplay is better in SSS. Between the two which you are looking at, Soldier Blade is way harder than Parodier but Parodier has the super cute thing going for it.

Darren Calvert disagrees!

Super Star Soldier features arcade-quality visuals, great music and bags of playability and as such comes highly recommended. Fellow TurboGrafx stablemates Blazing Lazers (Gunhed) and Soldier Blade are better blasters overall, still this is a stunning game and is worth a look until Hudson manage to release those on the Virtual Console at a later date.

I thought Soldier Blade beat Super Star Soldier in every possible way.
And if you already have Blazing Lazers, I think you'd be taking a step backwards with Super Star Soldier.

sorta off topic, but what ever happened to parodius, the spoof on gradius that was once on mentioned in esrb? I was looking forward to that.

I have both games and they're both great. I'd say that Star Parodier is my favorite of the two, though. I play a lot of Shmups and it's refreshing to play one that doesn't take itself too seriously. Of course, I'm referring to the content and the colorful, organic environments. SP by no means takes the difficulty of the genre lightly. Though, I would say that the Star Soldier games are more difficult. In the end, I like how cartoony and "Japanese" SP is. I can't help but to crack a smile every time I play it or Detana!! Twinbee, which I also recommend. And, for what it's worth, there are a lot of secrets to uncover in SP. That might help with your duration question, considering both games are about equal in length.

I hope that helps. I'm waiting for Parodius! That game looks sweet. Also, since you're a fan of Shmups, you should get Lords of Thunder if you haven't already. It's my personal favorite in the genre.

Saddler, YOU"RE small time!

Ok thanks guys, I think I'll get Star Parodier first.

Star parodier is well worth it but then soldier blade is great too. I would see which style you prefer as their both ace.

What's this bit for again?

Golgo

Star Parodier is my favourite of the two, some really funny/surreal moments in there. Plus it's a bit easier than Soldier Blade, which is good if - like me - you're not too hot at old skool shoot 'em ups.

I'd go Solder Blade over Parodier, but would put Blazing Lazers ahead of both.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.

Star Parodier. Soldier Blade I'll bet is good, but not as good as Super Star Soldier or Star Parodier. Not to mention, Star Parodier can be quite addicting at times.

To each their own

I agree with @DjPhatskillz "What a great question".
Ninjas or Jedi? The Goonies or Gremlins? Super Mario World or Super Mario Galaxy?
I would be forced to pick Star Parodier on this one, it all kinds of colour packed craziness. The PC Engine CD-ROM spewed lots of cutesy, inventive sprites and backgrounds in that game.

I am passionate about retro gaming, from antiquated consoles to the continuation of classics. Obviously I love PSone, and PS2 retro games. I blast my ears to breakneck melodic punk, gruff vocals and nimble alternative guitar hooks.

@jamieO if only all decisions in life could be as awesome as this one....
