This is the most random thought I've had, but I am curious. How many of you actually replay a game specifically because its been X years since its release?

To me, the only games I've ever done this with are Mother 3 for its 15th and Metroid Prime for its 20th, which are both top 5 games for me. For Prime I almost considered playing the entire game that day, but I decided to be reasonable and have it be across 4 days. Though I am strongly considering Smash Melee, Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime again with their 25th anniversaries. That specific era is peak childhood gaming to me, only unfortunate thing is that I missed the same for Paper Mario, a game I used to replay every year or so but haven't touched in a decade now.

Only really if the anniversary has excitement enough to put me in the mood to replay the game. Otherwise, no. I only really play or replay games when I feel like playing them.

If it's a major anniversary of a franchise I like I usually play a game in that franchise. Not an anniversary, but I suppose I usually play a mario game for Mario Day in March.

I don't think I've ever done such a thing. I don't replay games that much in general.

The closest thing that I did something like this was when I replayed Zelda Link's Awakening (2019) throughout September 2024 to prepare for Echoes of Wisdom, which was my big Christmas present that year. I played every day that month like usual, so I guess I happened to play said game on its fifth anniversary (September 20, 2024) without realizing it 😂.

Will definitely log in to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for its 10th anniversary next year though.

Never. I rarely go back and play anything that I've already wrapped up and done. It typically goes in the memory banks. If i do decide to return to something it's generally just for kicks, trying to reel in or capture bouts of nostalgia. It's never the same though, and always has me instead reminiscing of when i first initially played it, including the people that were in my life, when i was younger, when it was all 'in the now'. Now they're old dead consoles.

There's a level of pain that comes with nostalgia, that can easily overshadow how you think it may be or go down jumping back in. I find that going back to your old favourites alone is always most definitely a bad idea. Introducing them to your kids or nieces if you have them, or re-playing them with the people you grew up playing them with always works out better.

I replay Bloodborne during the Return To Yharnam event that takes place at around the anniversary every year. It's great fun.

I made a little tradition where I would play a Mario game when it's my birthday. My last birthday saw me play Mario Kart World, and I also started my replay of Super Mario Galaxy 2 that same day. As for playing a game on its anniversary, I don't often do that and I just play whatever I feel like, lol. I did play Super Mario Bros. on its 40th anniversary last year, though! Admittedly, I did play the All-Stars version since it's the version I have the most nostalgia for.

I completed WarioWare: Touched! 100% last year, which coincided with the year it turned 20 years old (in the Americas).
One of my goals was to complete Mario Kart DS 100% before its 20th anniversary, and I managed to do that at the end of 2024.
I think those are the only ones.
