This is a very specific question. When you update a Switch game to the latest version on a Switch, a game that includes better visuals for Switch 2, are you wasting SD storage, since Switch does not play the Switch 2 upgrades?
I don't quite get the question, are you asking if Switch 1 downloads Switch 2 upgrade data if a game got a Switch 2 upgrade?
The answer to that is no, Switch 1 can't download Switch 2 data
Is there a specific game you're thinking of here? In the cases of games like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet which run better on Switch 2, it's just a case of the new console being more powerful. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any Switch 1 games which have had entirely new models or textures for Switch 2 as just regular updates.
@Banjo- I don't think switch 1 will install the switch 2 textures if you own the switch 2 version. But I haven't done many tests either. If a game has a switch 1 and switch 2 version, and you own both versions, your switch should just install the switch 1 version. This is probably how it works for most cases.
I own switch 2 Skyrim Anniversary Edition (digital), but the switch 2 upgrade is DLC and is exclusive to switch 2. On switch 1, it only lets me install the standard Skyrim without the switch 2 anniversary edition upgrade dlc.
@Sylamp Thank you all! So, if there are heavy graphics packages for Switch 2, Switch won't download them? I ask because I haven't updated some games since these Switch 2 updates started, and I see that some updates are huge. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is one of them (3.8GB) and I did not think that the addition of Dixie would mean 4GB of extra data. I beat the game 100%, but I will download the update because of Dixie. I watched the official trailer and it mentions better graphics for Switch 2, although they look the same to me except the resolution. This example is a free update that is available for both consoles and the size is the same for both or am I mistaken?
@WoomyNNYes Because this not a Switch 2 Edition and apparently Switch 1 and 2 run the same OS, I thought that the same files were installed on both consoles, but I think that is not the case because of what you said and because I updated and the total size is 12.1GB. Good to know. I just wonder what else did they add to the game, because this is the first and only update. I guess graphics were tweaked or something.
