Topic: Cheapest eShop?

Hi dear fellows,

What country has the cheapest Switch eShop, so I make an account for that country? Is English included when you buy games from a foreign eShop? I'd like to have just one account so I don't need to switch accounts.

Thanks.

I don't believe there's a varying range of prices from region to region. Publishers usually set the same msrp globally for their games. The only differences you'd see would be due to the strength of that region's currency against the global economy. Or a publisher is offering different degrees of discounts in different regions.

There's not absolute cheapest as it depends on game, but by the look of it (https://eshop-prices.com/?currency=USD) Mexico and South Africa seems to often be the cheapest. Keep in mind though that sales are often region specific, so depending on you country of choice you might have the often cheapest regular price but have fewer sales than other country....

To be honest with no clear answer, I find it better to stick to my own country and target eshop gift card sale instead...

@BlueOcean : Supported languages are disclosed in the page for each unit of software. This information is also useful for ascertaining the supported languages of the equivalent physical release (if available) for that particular region's version of the game.

The markets are typically split into the following and will mostly share the same releases and sales (with some exceptions):

  • Japan
  • Asia (South-East Asia)
  • Europe/Australia/New Zealand
  • North America

Feel free to correct me as these seem to be Nintendo's core markets and also indicates the division between the various markets.

Thank you everyone.

@RunGMhx That is very interesting answer. How do I get a discounted eShop card?

I will probably buy the console today.

BlueOcean

RunGMhx

@BlueOcean I get some from Costco and Target sometimes, I keep an eye on https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitchDeals/ and gift card often pop over there as well as a myriad of other deals which is good because the shop is kind of a mess for classification since there's no real spotlight beside on release or top seller and games have no ratings...

BlueOcean

@RunGMhx Thanks. I couldn't find any eShop cards discounted though.

Guys, I have bought a grey Switch Lite, a case, Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 DX physically because they were much cheaper than on the eShop even though Mario Kart 8 DX is a Wii U port that is over two years old now (I didn't get any gold coins because of that). I also bought Crash Team Racing digitally and that was the cheapest one.

Suddenly, I have my own Switch and three games.

Hey @BlueOcean got a Switch!
Yeah, you can only get Nintendo points on physical if you buy the game within one year of release. I just ran into that for the first time in August.

If CTR adventure mode kicks your butt at default difficulty, play it on easy till you can beat the first 4-5 races as tutorial. That's what I did. Note: You can only select difficulty when you initially create a save file.

@Woomy_NNYes LOL I started in Normal and restarted in Easy. Is there any consequences or anything that I would miss if I play the whole adventure in the easy mode? Perhaps when I beat it I can play Normal? Also, I was playing on the aeroplane and the game told me that I wouldn't get Wumpa coins if I'm offline? So you have to be online for the progress you make give you coins for unlocking stuff? Wtf...

Why a grey Lite, @BlueOcean. ... ? Anyway, glad you finally got a Switch & some games

@BlueOcean
There is no consequence. Everything unlocks the same if you beat adventure mode on easy mode. After I beat the first 5 races on easy, I was proficient enough to win races on the normal difficulty game file. At that point, normal was so fun that I went on to beat adventure mode on normal. (never went back to the easy game file)

If you find yourself struggling to win on normal difficulty, it's HIGHLY LIKELY that you haven't found the track shortcut that the AI is using. I think every track has a shortcut? I had to use youtube to find a few of them.

@BlueOcean oops. Yes, WTF is about right. I recall reading you must be online to receive wumpa coins. I'm fairly certain you will still unlock most karts, wheels, characters, skins progressing through adventure mode offline, but you won't get wumpa coins to buy extras. I've only played CTR docked online, and not tested playing adventure mode offline to tell you if there are other details, but I think that's all of it.

Wumpa coins are for buying things in Pitstop - an in-game store that sells character skins, wheels, some karts; some of which has been newly added theme content, like Spyro character, Spyro kart, and the "back in time" content which had delorean time machine car & a Flintsones looking kart made of dinosaur bones and wood.

@BruceCM Grey basically because of the black frame.

@Woomy_NNYes I'll try to play CTR online but it sucks because I bought the Lite basically for commuting. I will do that, have two save files, one for easy and one for normal and see how I fare on each. Thank you for the tips.

About Switch Lite, the console itself is nicer than I expected, it's very comfortable to hold and light. The buttons are not as mushy as I was fearing. The plastic is smooth, built quality looks stronger than the original Switch but the screen is also somewhat low-quality, reflective and with poor contrast. For example, Mario Kart 8 DX doesn't look that great on the screen as Mario Kart 8 on a Wii U connected to a TV but it looks definitely better than Mario Kart 8 on the GamePad. If it had a better screen (and be more expensive) I would consider Switch Lite the best mobile hardware for gaming ever.

Oops, if drifts occurs I'll let you guys know!

Heh, @BlueOcean, as long as you're happy with it! Can't say about CTR, though .... What other games are you planning to get?

Any others you intend to get, though, @BlueOcean .... ? I'd imagine there's a few more already out you'd like? How about any upcoming games, too?

@BruceCM For now these are fine, Switch games are expensive.

BlueOcean

BruceCM

Lols & they're not much cheaper years later pre-owned, @BlueOcean ... Breath of the Wild, launched back with Switch in March 2017, pre-owned £5-10 less than new
Red Dead Redemption 2, which isn't even as old, is now £35, even new. Or £20 pre-owned!

@BruceCM Yeah, thankfully I have Xbox and Game Pass for most games. it's funny that I didn't get gold coins for Mario Kart 8 DX when it's still full-priced two years later. I was lucky to get that and Super Mario Odyssey a bit cheaper physically when I got the Switch Lite.

Yeah, @BlueOcean ... On the other hand, Switch games are still worth as much if you trade them in, unlike for Xbox One or PS4
