Recently I've really been missing match-3 slash RPG puzzle games such as PUZZLE QUEST 1 and 2, MIGHT & MAGIC: CLASH OF HEROES and even puzzle/Tower Defence games like PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES.
I would love these aforementioned titles to come to Nintendo Switch and highly recommend them to anyone yet to discover them.
From what is currently available and what puzzle games we know are incoming for Switch, which would the NL community recommend?
Have you looked at you local eShop online to see if any was on there?
I check the eShop of various territories regularly as part of my general game time on Switch. So I am aware of what games are on the system in all genres. I started the thread to encourage discussion about puzzle games that people have enjoyed on Switch or hope to come to the platform.
@Krull Yeah, I have that in my wishlist but I'm still not fully convinced as it is a 'rogue-lite' type system and I'm not sure how much I'd like that with this style of game. Plus, I thought it was a little pricey if memory serves at the time. But yes, it is one I am considering to get my puzzle fix on Switch. Cheers.
I suggest to wait until Lumines gets released. I don't like that much those games but Lumines is so cool! I also enjoy a bit Columns 1 (not as much as Lumines anyway) and maybe it could be released as part of Sega Ages.
Puyo Puyo is fun but I don't like the graphic style of this episode.
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
I actually already own titles like CAPTAIN TOAD: TREASURE TRACKER (one of the best Wii U games IMO) and SNIPPER CLIPS, loved playing through that in co-op with the Mrs.
PICROSS is a series I've never really clicked with but again, I appreciate the recommendation.
I'm a real big Puzzle gamer; I love to play, create and develop puzzle games for pc, mobile and handhelds.
Below are all games I've bought, played and perhaps loved to completion...
IronCast - it's initial price and looks were initially offputting, but it's a truly excellent Match 3 variant, you do have to pay attention to given orders as you can lose a game, just by damaging an opponent! Text is tiny in handheld mode.
Piczle Lines DX - Very addictive game where you link like coloured numbers. It's fairly repetitive (the music never changes) and the challenge never really ramps up (the puzzles just get bigger, but there are lots of them). The completed puzzle graphics are not great and load times are fairly long (I wrote an identical game for mobile, pc and OpenPandora that has zero load times); I mean 5-10+ seconds for no obvious reason. There's a jarring pause between seeing the puzzle after completion that really irks me - my own game scales the puzzle pieces down to show the picture immediately.
Mario vs Rabbids - OK, it's TBS, but there's a lot of puzzling too. One of the best Switch games available.
Letter Quest Remastered - It's short, but fun while it lasts. It's also cheap, so worth a punt.
Puyo Puyo Tetris - It's Tetris and Puyo Puyo. You know whether you like these games or not. It's not going to change you if you don't. Too expensive for what it is, but offers millions of hours of gameplay.
Puzzle Adventure Blockle - Much as I love the gameplay, I got bored of this very quickly. It ramps up the difficulty level very early on too. It's challenging, but not particularly enjoyable.
Picross S - Overpriced lesser clone of the 3DS Picross E games. I definitely had the feeling of having seen everything before...
Snake Pass - Oh dear. lovely looking and feeling game, but it's just soo boring and tedious. Maybe I didn't invest enough time in learning to control the snake, but I often never really felt like I actually HAD control of the snake.
@Fake-E-Lee@zitpig Cheers fellas, I have dabbled with PICZLE LINES DX via the demo. Was okay, I need to give it more time.
IRONCAST sounds as though I need to give it a second look and LETTER QUEST REMASTERED is a game I played on Vita and liked in the past.
I've actually already got a lot of these games mentioned such as MARIO + RABBIDS KINGDOM BATTLE (my favourite game on Switch to date) and SNAKE PASS (played of for less than 5hrs. Need to go back to it).
Very nice to read people's opinions on the Switch puzzle library so far. Hopefully, we'll get more and more puzzle games for the system and the return of PUZZLE QUEST or CLASH OF HEROES, or new games that can rival their excellent and involving puzzle game-play.
@Fake-E-Lee Yeah, the MAGICAL DROP games are terrific puzzlers. Seldom get the same attention afforded TETRIS or PUYO PUYO but it is one of Data East's best franchises.

@Fake-E-Lee Me too. Neo Geo was a distant dream for me due to its excessive cost. Did play some MVS Arcade Cabs back in the day. I'm totally cock-a-hoop for all these arcade releases on Switch.
Collectively it has been these games which have provided the Switch's killer-app IMO. Arcade perfect releases which you can play on TV or Handheld. Such a thing would have blown my tiny little mind as an arcade loving kid.
I'll throw in my vote for Tumblestone. The presentation is not good, but the gameplay is solid. If it's on sale, I think it's a no-brainer. There is a substantial single-player campaign which introduces you to the game's several mechanics. The game is relatively easy to pick up, so I have used it as a party game when people come over. Surprisingly, those who have tried it often ask to play it the next time they come over (instead of games like Mario Kart and Puyo Puyo Tetris).
