@Lazz Yeah it definitely wasn't the BEST version but it felt like a decent enough version to me, I know people mentioned the visuals but honestly I was so focused on the gameplay itself that I barely noticed myself and I guess I was lucky because my experience felt smooth, definitely not 60fps but still didn't notice any dropped frames either..

Beat-em-Ups I don't even know if I'd consider a "talking head." Most of his videos are longer, higher-quality reviews and previews. His podcast is really good, in my opinion. I really like him.

beat-em-ups lands in that category in my head of "even if their videos might be good, their thumbnails and titles are clickbaity and terrible enough i don't wanna bother anyways"

@squiddu-real BeatEmUps is definitely clickbaity, and lost me in the whole Xenoblade 2 debacle (he basically made a big deal about it being a terrible game, and barely even played it). I think he leans a lot in the negative side with Nintendo as well - making a big deal about small negatives. Not an issue per se, but I’m personally not interested in so much negativity. And he just tends to exaggerate in general imo.

There are a lot of great YouTube channels out there, and tbh I mostly lean to videos that aren’t so much about current events. For a channel that does follow the latest gaming news/previews/etc, I wholeheartedly recommend Good Vibes Gaming, featuring ex-NL Jon Cartwright. The clue’s in the name - although they’re not afraid to raise valid criticisms here and there, generally they’re a joy to watch / listen to, and I think they have good takes on most things.

@Buizel gvg nearly lost me with the physical eu thingy that made no sense, but yeah they definitely are one of the better choices for nintendo news by a long shot

@squiddu-real Ah yeah I see. Feels like an honest mistake, although I'm surprised they didn't take the video down after that. Maybe still good as a "what if" discussion point, even if irrelevant.

Tbh, current events style gaming content interests me the least nowadays. It made more sense in the Wii U era and even going into the Switch, because speculation made up for gaps in actual games, but with how overwhelmingly, impossibly large the amount of even major releases are on Nintendo nowadays and Nintendo being in a case of often just being boringly, only occasionally controversially, successful, it doesn't interest me nearly as much nowadays. For better or worse, the actual interesting things (read: mostly bad) are not happening with Nintendo from any sort of business or industry perspective outside of the contrast to other companies.

Like GVG's good content nowadays is mostly going through obscure and semi-forgotten bits of gaming history, and the rest often barely exist to me. Edited videos ala Let's Plays (the ones that still exist and weren't replaced with objectively worse non-edited streams) or the type someone like an Antdude or Scott the Woz make are the only type of gaming videos I regularly enjoy.

I guess I'm lucky I never got into the GTA games or Red Dead Redemption either. I do have a Xbox Series X and PS5 but I only really support physical games on consoles plus I'm not a fan of third person perspective which GTA6 only provides no first person mode. So I will watch a few videos with great interest to see how the game runs on the hardware but have little interest in playing it. Maybe if they change their mind and do a physical release I'll be tempted but I'm guessing the first time I play it will be perhaps 5 years from now when its on PC at a fraction of the price just to see what it is like. It appears they are going to be milking PS5 and Xbox Series X owners initially with a ridiculous price point for a digital only release. Good luck to them I'm sure they will get a huge chunk of their development costs back in just a few weeks on sale but I will buy for pocket change much later.

When I first looked at that page you couldn't click on the standard version and get a price but now you can and it is £70. So £30 extra over the standard version. It all seems ridiculous to me but then I look for value in my gaming purchases. I do wonder how long the £70 price or even £100 price will last. The Switch 2 lacks analogue triggers and my experience of first person shooters on it is a little disappointing due to lack of analogue triggers. It isn't as bad as race games but still doesn't feel as good with simple click triggers. I do wonder how well this will sell. I remember buying Call of Duty games dirt cheap on wii and wii u as they sold so badly. I think I paid something like £2.99 for Call of Duty Black Ops on wii u and even though the wii was a huge success as a format I also paid very little for the call of duty games on that.

I guess we will see how Call of Duty performs on its return to Nintendo. I'm not expecting great success myself but you never know. Also dare I say the more ambitious the game the more Switch 2 seems to have high input lag due to the weak CPU and slow panel. I feel Switch 2 owners will be at a disadvantage online if they are competing with other format players especially if there are PC owners as many of them are seriously obsessed with hardware, some even using CRTs to make sure their input lag is completely minimised. I guess with VGA not supported nowadays on many graphics cards that isn't a thing so much but many gaming monitors have a pixel response of only 1-2ms.

@squiddu-real they feel more like a podcast than wrapping his opinions in skits with his friends. I will say though, if it means that he can make longer things like the Wii U Trilogy, I'm pretty okay with the Stash.

Brian definitely is the man. He's always an absolute blast to listen to, and i like the dynamic between him, Seth(Who's a bit more eccentric, mildy uninged but in the best way possible and has no problem saying it like it is), and Logan who's more polite, resserved and astute. They need somebody younger on there like Logan too, they can't just have guys in their mid 40's, as much as i prefer that, since that's in my age bracket, they've been gaming since the very beginning when Nintendo saved the industry with NES, so their gaming background is similar and far more complete, and they know what it was like growing up in the late 80's & 90's.

Still, I miss Matt Casamasina & Bozoon from the DS Lite & Wii days! I can't believe those dudes played their Wii on those awful LCD/LED HDTV's that glazed the later 2000's. All of that awful smeary Motion blur, crap colors, weak black levels, poor viewing angles and input lag equaled a far worse experience than playing Wii using component cables on a larger 32" 4:3 Sony WEGA CRT from the mid 2000's. Plasma's overall were much better than the LCD/LED's back then, but they had horrendous input lag.

With a good CRT, you get no lag, perfectly clear motion clarity that still smokes the modern 4K OLED TV's of today, good blacks, great colors and perfect viewing angles. Sure, you don't get progressive scan, or widescreen(But then, Wii games actually looked worse in wide screen since it was anamorphic WS. Wii games looked tack sharp & crisp in 4:3 by comparison) nor can CRT's get anywhere near as bright, but CRT's pro's ultimately reign supremO' in the case of the Wii.
