Hi can anyone help a newcomer to the Nintendo Switch, which was brand new at Xmas and all our other games work well.

We've bought Ringfit 2nd hand. The first 2 times we used it, it played fine. The third time we tried, it got stuck in a loop playing the attachment guide/suit-up guide over and over and over again. At that stage the only way to get out of the game is to physically take the cartridge out of the Switch, as NONE of the buttons work. Also during this game the buttons indicated on screen do NOT do what they should.

Are we missing selecting a button? , or may it be faulty? Thanks in advance for any advice. OK , I may have answered my own question eg it's broken ? 😆 .

@TeriMcK Tap home button to suspend the game and open home screen. While on home screen, and while the game's icon is selected, you can press X to close the game.

Home button is the the little square button below the analog stick on the right right joycon. Home button sits kind of flush on the controller. On the pro controller, it's same shape but just above the right analog stick.

I think I've seen a different game that would stay stuck in a tutorial until you completed the task it's teaching. So, maybe that's the sort of thing you ran into? Only a guess.
Otherwise, pressing (+) is usually the pause menu to quit. If (+) doesn't open a menu to quit, I think with some games, they expect you to press home button to go to home screen and close the game from there. 😉

Thank you for your response, but as I said NONE of the buttons worked. So to solve it, we returned the game to the person we bought it from, and have brought a brand new version of it. GUESS WHAT? The brand new version goes into a loop in exactly the same place. NO OTHER GAMES fail to play, just the Ringfit . So are we to assume this is just a fundamentally flawed piece of rubbish?

@TeriMcK Understand your frustration, but seeing as it's sold 15 million copies and I've not heard of anyone else with this problem, the problem is very likely to be at your end.

Which part of the attachment guide is it looping at - the leg-strap screen or the ring-con screen, or after that?

Make sure you've updated the game to the latest version and that you're not playing on a Switch with hacked firmware.

Make sure you are sliding the left joy-con into the leg-strap vertically, with the joy-con facing forwards and making a clearly identifiable downward motion. I can progress past this screen without a leg-strap, just by thrusting the joy-con downwards vertically.

Make sure you are sliding the right joy-con fully into the ring-con slot so that it clicks into place. Holding the ring out in front of you, the joy-con A, B, X, Y buttons should be facing you, horizontally. With the joy-con clicked correctly into place the game should automatically advance to the next screen, that tells you to press in on the ring-on.

Try using different joy-cons. Make sure they're synced with the Switch before inserting them into the leg-strap and ring.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@TeriMcK Below is a video of how the initial setup process for Ring Fit Adventure should go, including the tutorial video that you say is looping. Would you mind having a look at it and telling us exactly the point at which yours differs from this? That could help us figure out exactly what is going on.

As gcunit said, the problem is most likely something on your end. You saying that even the home button doesn't work puzzles me a bit, as unless the console is hard frozen that should always return you to the console's home menu. Sorry if this sounds like stating the obvious, but could you check that the controllers are actually connected to the console when this is happening? There should be a green light on the rails that is constant and not flashing if they are. Also, try holding the home button for a couple of seconds. This should bring up an options menu, if it doesn't that helps us figure out what is wrong.

How long is it before people start assuming OP had a simple oversight and there's nothing wrong with their game?

I ain't saying they should, but they might...

Possible reasons for being stuck in a game loop:

User error. I never rule out user error for myself. Sometimes, something in a game isn't intuitive to me. It happens.😆 I'll agree, it can be frustrating. Watching a youtube video walkthrough of the game is usually how I figure out what I missed. CinnamonRobin posted a walkthrough above.

Corrupted save data. Less likely to happen, but can happen. Corrupted save data can create a glitch that prevents progress or triggering the next part of the game to load. The solution is starting a whole new game from scratch, unfortunately. I don't know if RingFit allows you to delete a game save profile, or if it has to be done from Switch Settings/Data Management/Delete Save Data. If you want, you could try starting a new game with a different switch user profile.

Hardware problem. If it's not user error, not corrupted save data, then I'd start suspecting a controller is not responding. Nintendo support has a troubleshooting page for joycons. If nintendo's troubleshooting can't solve it, then something is probably defective, damaged, needs repair or replacement: Joycon troubleshooting: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a...

Deleting the game. I personally have never solved anything by reinstalling a game. You can do it, just don't get your hopes up too high. However, I have encountered corrupted save data at least once or twice with the switch. And that's solved by starting a brand new save profile (described above).

Thank you everyone for your responses. It did indeed appear to be user error, my son was trying to assist me with it, but he has now got it working.
