Discussion of the recent issues with limited edition collection pre-orders, how retailers are failing us and how Nintendo can be better by producing more units, alerting users to collection drops, and allowing collectors to register their interests in upcoming products well in advance of their release

@Slideaway1983 hope this tag works! If not I'll do as you suggest with your friend code

The ironic thing about the actual original post that started this post, is that we cab actually add stuff to our wishlist on the nintendo store, but you never get a notification when it's restocked, or it never gets restocked.

Thats my prime frustration!

@Slideaway1983 omg yes it's so pointless having a wishlist feature if you don't notify people when stock comes in! I've also noticed now they're merging the Nintendo store and eshop wishlist, I only added Ocarina to my wishlist because the store listed it as out of stock initially before it went live but when I checked the eshop a few days after it had appeared in my wishlist there... Not cool.

As for how we go about our little arrangement I think your suggestion about exchanging friend codes is sensible, I could do it now on my OG Switch as I'll be transferring my profile over once I get my Switch 2 at the end of next month. Let me know what you think.

Also it's probably best to discuss anything monetary at a later date just to avoid any kind of moderation, rest assured though I'm a vintage toy collector so I know all the tricks to secure any kind of transaction so we're both protected from any kind of unpleasantness.

reason # umpteen-thousand that Nintendo needs to copy Steam's homework a little bit.

They are so proud and revered, yet their products are so broken. 2005 me can't believe I'm even saying this! ✌️👍

IDK why people put so much time and effort into getting these. You get the same exact game, just with possibly a fancy metal book and possibly an amiibo. (I say possibly because I assume we're talking about Metroid, but I wanna say this about special editions as a whole.) The amount of frustration online over not being able to get some extras that do almost nothing for the game is absolutely bonkers.

My rule of thumb with special editions is that I'll only get them if there's an art book, a soundtrack, or something that serves to broaden out the experience. Also, I really don't like preordering games so it's got to be something that's absolutely nailed on, especially when they're going to sell out months in advance.

For me, Metroid just doesn't cut it on either of those things. It's basically just Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and Zelda, at least so far as Nintendo are concerned.

I can dimly remember a time when you could walk into a shop after reading the reviews and still buy them off the shelf, but that seems to be long gone. They're just the ultimate in FOMO now.
