Capcom returned to Switch 2 with yet another banger last week in the shape of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. We've been having a wonderful time with the game so far, but how will it hold up under the technical analysis of the experts at Digital Foundry? It's time to find out.

It's a slightly mixed bag, but DF seems optimistic about the port as a whole, describing it as arriving in "surprisingly good shape".

The Switch 2 version's visuals seem to be its strongest suit, even surpassing the Xbox Series S in some areas — like shadows and lack of screen tearing. The console's DLSS use also boosts image quality to output 1080p in Docked and 720p in Handheld.

There are some pitfalls, naturally, mainly in its simplified lighting, reduced foliage density and pop-in, though DF admits that the cuts "feel smartly considered".

There's also the sworded issue of frame rates — "none of the game's three graphics modes offers a bulletproof experience we can recommend," states the DF review. The standard mode looks "juddery" with its poor frame pacing at 30fps, the undocked mode causes havoc with VRR, and the frame-generation final mode is hampered by worse input latency.

All in all, though, it's not the end of the world, and DF gives credit to Capcom for "squeezing such a demanding open-world RPG onto Switch 2 hardware".
