We haven't heard anything about Flashback 2 for a little while. This sequel to the oft-forgotten 1992 classic was teased last year — and yeah, we may have been a bit cheeky with our headline, but 30 years have passed!
But we finally got a new look at the upcoming Flashback sequel at this year's Summer Game Fest. The short minute-long trailer confirmed that Flashback 2 will also be coming to Switch along with all other consoles.
Not an announcement we were expecting to see today, let alone confirmation of a Switch version, but we'll take a new entry in a long-forgotten franchise any day!
Are you a Flashback fan? Let us know if you're excited about the sequel in the comments.

...This looks rough, as expected from Microids. The environments looks fine but the models and animations are looking very rough for a game coming in like 6 months?
Flashback squared. It's Flashback times better than Flashback!
We already had a Flashback sequel, Fade to Black!
My overriding memory of the original is its bug.
If they made the "not really the sequel" into some kind of fourth-wall breaking, purposely glitched out bug fest.. .. you know. That actually might redeem the original, for me.
As an older relative, can't say I'm all that hyped. Flashback was a relic of it's time. Amazing when it came out, still a fantastic throwback in modern times, but the whole point of it was that it was trying to push animation and story telling as far forward as possible. Not getting any good vibes from this little trailer.
Huge News!!! At last, a proper sequel to Flashback 1 !!!!!!!!
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yes, indeed but it was like a spiritual sequel. I had finished it way back then but it was not as good as the first. At least, it had a better length in time.
So Microids did a press release on their website: Fade To Black doesn't seem canon in the slightest, and the events of the remake of the first game aren't.
They got the Amiga composer working on it, and apparently got to mocap a Marvel movie stuntman, which is cool in the idea, but the few clear gameplay segments from the teaser seriously doesn't do it justice with clear animation cutoffs and stuff...
Interested, not fully convinced.
What a strange video... can barely see the footage. But still, cool that Flashback finally getting another game in the series after Fade to Black.
I thought Fade to Black was the sequel, hopefully this one doesn't disappoint.
@nkarafo No, it was not a spiritual sequel, it was a direct continuation of the story. Have fond memories of playing it when it first came out. (Over the shoulder 3d game might be what you mean by spiritual to the 2.5d platformer original)
Nice! I'll definitely give it a try.
Shoudl've gone with "2 Flash 2 Backurious"
I bought a Genesis model 2 with a copy of Flashback in a flee market years ago, cost me 75$ Canadian dollars. I also own it on Xbox and Switch so you could say that yes, I'm interested. By the way, I'm also one of those older relatives.
Has anyone here the switch port of the first flashback?
I encountered a wierd bug in the very first level.
There is an item missing which I suppose to pick up to proceed.
maybe 10-15min in the game.
I deleted the game/saves and redownloaded it several times and the bug is still here.
I even played my original snes cartridge next to the switch version because I thought I was just too stupid
@Lusephur Perhaps you are right. I don't remember it at all.
I loved the original and got it when it was re-released on the switch, bought back so many memories.
So on the fence for this one, but will definitely get it if Microids brings a physical. Which they normally do for all their games.
I remember the original, and 30 years is, indeed, a long time to drift in suspended animation. I hope time has been kind to Conrad Hart's universe while he's been away... but since his adventure is getting a sequel now, I guess the answer is an all-around "no it hasn't". LOL
