The wait is over for North American gamers, as Hyrule Warriors is now available on Wii U in the region. It's been a whirlwind time for the Koei Tecmo Warriors / Zelda spin-off, announced in December 2013 and rather rapidly arriving to target fans of both franchises.
With the title now available in Nintendo's highest value region, a new launch trailer has been released to build some hype. It throws in a lot of the cast available and a fairly broad variety of environments; it my just change the opinion of those on the fence, so check it out below.
Let us know whether you'll be picking this up in North America today, or if you've already been hacking and slashing thousands of enemies. If you want to know more, meanwhile, don't forget to check out our Hyrule Warriors review and our interview with Eiji Aonuma and Yosuke Hayashi.

Now UPS needs to just get it to my house and we are golden.
Game has been super fun so far!
Just downloaded it and preordered the DLC! Playing it as soon as i get home from work!!!
Downloading now!
The elusive HW. On my way to Kmart or Sears to buy it now but both websites don't have it listed at all, WW HD comes up instead. Target cashier had it in hand yesterday but wouldn't sell it to me. The search continues...
I will be getting it.....but not today. Probably closer to Christmas or in January
Cant wait to get it after work today really hyped
Aghhh! I'll have, like, 15 minutes to play this on my lunch break today.
Still waiting for mine to get here from Amazon. Hyped.
Good trailer, but it's interesting how the reviews they chose for the trailer merely describe the game as "solid". Usually if they show such reviews in a trailer it would say something like "masterpiece 10/10".
Personally, I'm still not very interested in the title, since I don't like the Dynasty Warriors games.
After work I'm picking mine up. Finally something to play on Wii U.
"8.5 out of 10"
Man, even the Destructoid folks liked this one. Then again, it's not nine or higher, because of their annoying anti-Nintendo bias.
So excited, should be coming in from Amazon within a few hours (UPS is usually pretty early where I live). Since I work from home it's going to take a lot of discipline to not play it.
Workday is going by soooooo slowly!
My Amazon copy shipped this morning though. I'll pick up my gamestop copy after work!
Just got back with mine. I'll play some here in a bit. I'm actually more excited now then I was for the whole build up for it. I've now excepted that it's a hack and slash Zelda and there's nothing wrong with that!
Pre-ordered but getting my copy tomorrow.
From EU here, I hope all of you guys in NA really enjoy Hyrule Warriors. I'm sure it'll surprise you with how fun and great it is.
Lovely game, highly recommended! Already done with the campaign, moving onto the Adventure Mode
I preordered mine from Amazon. They said guaranteed release day delivery, but it just shipped yesterday. It will be interesting to see if its waiting for me after work today....
I'll wait two months. After it tanks it will be everywhere for twenty dollars.
@BigH88 yeah, finally. Not sure if you're serious.
Got ours at Kmart, kids are playing it now. What an ordeal though, the videogame guy is off on Fridays, game wasnt out, somebody got on the phone to call someone else who finally showed up with 6 copies of the game in hand. Got my $13 of Kmart credit points but I really need to stop shopping there.
Just purchased my copy!
@stephenmunn Don't be too sure about that. While it is a spinoff, its still technically a Nintendo game, so don't be surprised if it stays in the 40-50 dollar range.

@jazo152 I may be wrong, sure. But while I've seen many first party Nintendo games inexplicably retain their value in the past in many cases, I've seen this "fail and reduce" happen time and again with other third party developed Nintendo-published games in particular. Wonderful 101 comes to mind this generation. I'm not interested enough in this game to pay full price for it, since I don't enjoy Dynasty Warriors games. Instead I have pre-orders in for Bayonetta 2 and Smash WiiU, even though Bayonetta 2 may also fail and be slashed in price as well.
Been fantastic so far. I have to leave it for horrible reality for a while soon but it will be there when I get back.
I just need to swing by the store to pick up my copy. They open in 15 minutes. But unfortunately it is looking like work issues are going to keep me stuck at my computer for a while. Very annoying.
@undomiel It semmed like it sucked when it happened but my two weeks vacation was bumped from the middle of summer till now. Fantastic stuff!
@SetupDisk nice timing on that! I knew I should've taken a vacation ... oh well, there's always Bayonetta 2 that I could use my time for.
Very cool ad for gamespot to like a game is very rare as they always give bad reviews.
Looks great but I'm waiting for the Twilight Princess pack.
Just a little too violent for my kiddos, otherwise I'd be picking it up today. Maybe by Holidays for my older one. She enjoyed the demo at the store once she got the hang of it. She even discovered a combo on her own. I'd appreciate any notes on content. My little guy would be crushed to be left out though — he dresses up as Link for Halloween.
I know it's not bloody or anything. The problem is that even though all the Zelda games are violent, the excitement also comes from adventure, exploration, uncovering secrets and solving puzzles. This one is just kill kill kill. My 5-year-old especially needs a bit of balance. It's a bit of a problem this year because Smash Bros. is the other big release!
@aaronsullivan Nice to see there are still great parents out there. Props to you!
I love it so far, but I'm in europe and had a head start. It definitely is something you'll need to warm into, but soon enough will.
Really just a neat surprise, this game, and I can see myself playing it a lot for times to come.
@aaronsullivan
Well I definitely wouldn't recommend this for a 5 year old but I can't think of any specific moments where a character did something that would have been too violent for a mainline Zelda game, I haven't seen anything bordering on any of Ganondorf's executions in TP and WW, but I haven't finished the story mode. The special moves are more showy and cartoony than gory.
Cia's design is probably the least appropriate thing in the entire game.
On a personal note there was one level in the game where...
Spoilers!
you have to mow down hundreds of Ocarina of Time style Gorons. Whilst not exactly worse than usual it caused me an extreme amount of heartache XD
Spoiler end
If you feel they are old enough for Lord of the Rings then this wouldn't encroach on the violence in that.
I'm not going to lie, as a Dynasty sceptic I wasn't expecting to enjoy this much but... oh my is it fun and addictive. The mainline challenge of the game isn't usually due to what you are fighting but how you apply yourself across the battlefield and whether you can finish fighting a particular group of enemies fast enough to save a companion on the other end of the battlefield.
@DRL Thanks! Probably takes one to know one (or at least someone who has had one).
@AJWolfTill
Thanks for the thorough reply! What you describe is what it seems to me as well. It's more about the repetition and the focus of the game. He's seen some tough moments in other games but I'm there to help him process it carefully one moment at a time. Just saw that stage with the Gorons in the promo. I was aghast! lol.
I've played the demo a few times and it seems like it would be fun to play through.
Fortunately, we have tons of unfinished games to play through to distract this Zelda-loving family. (Minish Cap!)
Why Didn't Nintendo borther to make this a TV add here in europe too? This would be really awesome to see on TV ^^
How many more fruity characters will they cram into DLC? Tingle?
Just picked up a copy at Toys R Us ... Time to try it out ... Not the Biggest Zelda Fan but this looks really cool & fun
While I've been super hyped to get this, I really don't know if I'm $60 hyped, ya know? Will probably just wait until the inevitable first price drop, and work on my backlog instead...
...and well...Smash.
**edit**
Looks like I caved and went and bought it anyway. Can't wait to pop this in later! Nintendo, why do you love my wallet so much?
Bought it this morning on the eshop while having my morning coffeee...left it to download while at work... Now i'm itchin to get home to play ARRRRGGH
Been hacking and slashing for a week already And enjoying every single moment. This game is truly so much better than I ever thought from the trailers, they just don't give the big picture of what all this game actually contains.
This is really fun. I've never played any other Dynasty Warriors games and I felt lukewarm about it after reading the review here, but after reading a few others this morning I downloaded it and played the first stage. Really a lot of fun. This'll be a great multiplayer game during the holidays.
@shigulicious Serious, well I mean retail wise.
Just got it at Best Buy! Had a hard time deciding between the free Skyward Sword and Ocarna of Time suits, but went with Skyward Sword.
@Luna-Harmony You can get good reviews from Gamespot by simply paying. (And staff can and do get fired for not giving a high score to a paid for review).
Was going to get it today but I decided to save my money for Smash 3DS next week. Who knows? Maybe Smash 3DS will be sold out and I'll get Hyrule Warriors...
great GAME!! i didnt expect to have so much fun with dynasty warrior franchise but the zelda side add so many awesome elements to the game . If u like Zelda game i think u should get this one for all the Zelda game reference . have fun
@AlexSora89 : Got more there that it did here! and not sure about your bias comment seeing as they just gave smash bros a 9. The game is great but does get stale after a while, 8.5 sounds about right imho.
Picked this up today. Lots of mindless fun. Tons of Zelda fan-service. Surprising amount of variety and gameplay options. Great in short bursts, sort of like a racing game without online competitive play. I'm really enjoying it!
My only complaint so far is the lack of English voice acting during cut-scenes and in battle. I'd much prefer that to reading captions while I'm slaying hordes of moblins.
Downloaded it last night and I'm having a blast- I never played a Dynasty Warrior game so I'm still getting used to the battlefield map and chaos- two things that are a bit annoying is the weapon crafting system and no voice acting- but it's a solid game and I'm glad to support it-
Was never really the biggest fan of the Warriors series but still picked it up today. I must say, thus far, HW is crazy fun!!
this game is much more fun than it has any right to be, there are flaws, but when you are having such a blast, they aren't really all that noticeable
Got the game ... won't be able to play it until Saturday afternoon .... but .... from almost all here .... the key word that is being used is .... Fun ..... and that is the best word in gaming.
I'm guessing nothing will make me buy this game lol. Still passing.
@Captain_Gonru - "To be fair to the Target cashier, the register wouldn't have let it go through. I assume one of their brain surgeons put it on the floor early?"
The cashier told me she put it on the floor and in the case. I bought mine at Kmart b/c I carry a grudge. Not b/c the cash register wouldnt put it thru, but b/c they had it out there, and I had to wait for someone to get the key to unlock it, then wait for the cashier to ring it up to tel me she coudln't sell it to me. Which is still better than Kmart Friday morning where nobody works in elctronics - Friday is Fred's day off - I was told, so I looke daroun dfo rawhile, go tsomebody who got somebody who called somebody who go tth emanager to bring the game out of the back. They had 7 copies, the Kmart website said OOS.
Target may be circling the drain but Kmart is way way down there in the sludge.
I can play as Ghirahim, fight alongside Link, and beat the rocks out of some Gorons?!
Oh brilliant, now I need a WiiU!
