Welcome to our complete story walkthrough of Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch and SNES.

Mario and company have just escaped the Sunken Ship with a valuable treasure in hand: the fifth Star Piece. Seaside Town’s village elder personally requested that Mario take it back from Johnny and his band of pirates, and now it’s time to make good on that promise and save Seaside Town from chaos. …Right?

Here’s our guide on your return visit to Seaside Town, the new shops, and where to go next in Super Mario RPG.

Return to Seaside Town Walkthrough

After defeating Jonathan Jones, head back to Seaside Town and you’ll notice that whatever’s been plaguing the town still clearly hasn’t been resolved. As it turns out, every single member of Seaside Town is actually a mechanical replacement created by Speardovich — known as Yaridovich on the SNES — a member of Smithy’s gang. That explains a lot!

When prompted, hand over the Star Piece right away to save yourself some time and get yourself a reward later. If you refuse, you’ll just have to sit through cutscenes before being presented with the same question.

Speardovich and his goons will run away, so chase after them. They’ll try to escape through the ocean, but Johnny and his pirates will appear to corner them. With no other choice, Speardovich reforms and engages you in combat.

Boss - Speardovich / Yaridovich

Yaridovich is an incredibly difficult obstacle, so make absolutely sure you’re stocked up on healing items and are at full health. If you purchased Ice Bombs from Seaside Town previously, now’s the time to use them.

If you head to the right you’ll find the Shed Key lying on the floor. Pick it up, go back to Seaside Town proper and unlock the shed that was previously blocked by Speardovich's mirage. If you forked over the Star Piece without refusing even once, the village elder will give you a Flower Jar.

The Elder’s house is at the northeast corner of the map, so head there and speak to him. This will unlock Land’s End on the world map, which happens to be your next destination. Remember that the Frog Sage's student is still on the second floor of this house; if you gathered up more Frog Coins since the last time you were here, you can buy some neat gear like the Exp. Booster (if you didn't buy it already).

A few new shops have opened up across town, too. In the leftmost door of the northeast building are health foods like Mid Mushrooms and Pick Me Ups, and it can never hurt to have a few of those. In the middle door is a Toad who wants to taste mushrooms obtained in different areas, while the rightmost door contains miscellaneous accessories that you probably already have.

In the northwest building is a weapons and armor shop so feel free to purchase a Troopa Shell and a Double Punch for your party members. There are also weaker weapons here that you probably obtained earlier in the game and sold off for cash.

There's also a Snifster who, for 500 coins, will let you buy a box and play the Booster Hill minigame and a Toad who wants to buy Mushrooms off of you.

When you’re finished with your shopping, leave Seaside Town to return to the world map and prepare for your trip to Land's End!
