Super Mario RPG: How To Defeat Speardovich

Speardovich — or Yardovich in the SNES version — is one of Super Mario RPG's hardest boss fights. Coming with strong physical and magical attacks, you'll need to stay on top of healing and deal with his various forms as quickly as you can. You'll encounter Speardovich upon returning to Seaside Town once you've plundered the Sunken Ship.

In this guide, we will be giving you the best strategy to beat Speardovich in Super Mario RPG.

How to beat Speardovich / Yaridovich

Recommended party: Mario, Mallow, Peach/Geno

Mario and Mallow are essential for this fight, but the third member can be either Peach or Geno. Geno boasts more firepower, but if you find you need more healing you can switch to Peach and use Therapy and Group Hug.

Speardovich uses an absolutely devastating spell called Water Blast that strikes each party member for major damage. He will use it on the first turn and then use it every three turns. Heal up before or after this attack if you need to.

If using Geno, get him to cast Geno Boost on the party member throwing the bomb so it deals increased damage. Otherwise, stick to physical attacks because Speardovich's magic resistance is high and Geno and Peach appreciate having FP to use.

After you deal enough damage, he will split into two. The fake Speardovich takes more damage from attacks, plus you’ll automatically target the real one as long as you attacked him the turn before he split up.

If you want to be sure, however, use Mallow's Thought Peek to reveal which one is the real one and which one is the fake.

He’ll eventually reform into a single target, and from here you just need to keep attacking him and healing your party accordingly until the fight ends. It'll take a while, but you can do it.
