On the topic of conch shells, is it grand to use them for the slot machine now? I know they contribute to the Splatfest score during the 'Sneak Peak' period and I'm curious whether or not me choosing to spend them on the gacha machine will take away from my team's overall score? It probably won't, but I just want to be sure

@WoomyNNYes The Conch Shells are different to the Super Sea Snails. They are earned by leveling up the catalog. They can then be redeemed at the Shell-Out Machine https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Conch_Shell . SplatoonNA also just posted about them. There are also Festival Shells, which are earned by winning 10x battles. These are supposed to increase the chance of having a 100x or 333x battle.

SplatoonJP posted on Twitter there is a bug where you get Conch Shells even without choosing a team. Any Conch Shell earend before choosing a team don't contribute to the Splatfest, and you can lose them unable to use them at the vending machine.

@Budda I had a feeling something like that could happen so I joined my team before starting my matches for the day. Hopefully it'll get hotfixed either before this Splatfest begins or the next one is announced.

Made it to S+! Feeling quite exhausted. Now to take a breather and actually enjoy the other bits of the game. Haven’t touched the card game, or even the story mode! Looking forward to seeing what’s in store.

Sheesh, I finally beat the story mode. All kettles are beaten, and I'm only missing a few collectibles. I'll probably grab them again at some point. Anyways, spoiler time!!

I thought the final boss was really fun, if not more for a comedic effect if anything. I thought it was really goofy how Small Fry just turned Super-Saiyan and they had a full-on kaiju battle, but I was all there for it. The lore present throughout beating the kettles was extremely interesting as well. I'm really excited to see where the story will go from here now, especially in the DLC.

But that post-game kettle darn near killed me. I died multiple times on the last few stretches of each section, and I was so close to just ragequitting. Maybe it was just me, but I found it to be brutal. I stuck with it, though, and after about 30 minutes of attempting, finally beat it. It was easily harder than anything in the Octo Expansion, except for maybe Inner Agent 3. It was an extremely rewarding feeling, though, and you get some cool cosmetics as a result.

So overall, I was very impressed with the story mode, much more than the first two campaigns. However, it didn't quite reach the same level of creativity and difficulty that I felt was present in the Octo Expansion. I'll post my full-on review of the game as a whole in the "Games you recently beat thread" when I get a chance.

What did you all think of the campaign and the secret kettle?

@StarPoint I thought it was pretty good in terms of difficulty and that ending was also good! However the ending might not hit as hard for people that haven’t played splatoon 2.

I fear no man
but that thing:
The carrot minigame from bowser's inside story
it scares me

@StarPoint I don't think I'm ever going to get over the fact that Squid Jesus is a canonical thing in the Splatoon world and was the progenitor of every modern day Inkling.

The lore as a whole this time round though was absolutely phenomenal, with my personal highlights including the aforementioned Squesus, Big Man seemingly being a part of the Splatoon equivalent of the Mafia/Yakuza, the fact that all sea life evolved rapidly because of humanity's attempt to escape the underground bunkers and the recon/food ticket fish Marigold being either a spy or a bioweapon. That last one especially caught me extremely off guard like bro: WHAT THE F***!?

Oof, already feel like I had my fill of the game, even quicker than I thought it would happen. Story mode was a blast as expected, but without actual people to get together and play this with and my general lack of skill when it comes to precise aiming, I’m already less inclined to jump in again. Admittedly Salmon Run might be nice for a few rounds here and there, I like the coöperative aspect, and I definitely don’t regret my purchase in the slightest. Just realising how quickly burnt out I get on these sorts of games.

I keep buying fighting games for some reason, even though I barely got anyone to play against.

@Fizza Maan, I would read your post if I had finished the story mode, I will get on that!

@Dev9417 I'm surprised they weren't featured more besides a single Sunken Scroll to be honest, especially when said Sunken Scroll was shown in the very first Story Mode trailer alongside plot relevant ones like The Great Flood and the realistic squid. Maybe in Splatoon 4's Story Mode perhaps? Wouldn't mind Lil' Judd pulling a Scrappy Doo and turning into a hideous monster for the final fight to be honest.

@jump Same. Seems worse if anything. I've given up on the game until it's been definitely fixed (if it ever is)

@Takoda Maybe try a weapon that doesn't require so much aiming eg one of the melee-ish brushes or the Bloblobber?

Sunshine is one of my favourite games. So that one part in the campaign was a highlight for me, despite it not being as difficult or fleshed out as the others. Good reference.

At a certain point not too many ranks in, Salmon Run just becomes actively frustrating instead of fun.

@Ralizah Salmon Run gets better and better IMO.

Series has been awful so far. Too many disconnects, and awful random team players. I lose 3 matches for every one I win. I still get enough points through the gold medals I earn that I progress. But it's very slow, and I barely earn any money. Salmon Run is way more profitable for me.

If anyone has used Salmon Run's "Demote" button in the (L) button match menu, please share any other details if there are any.

Joeynator3000 used it, and said,

"It only reduces the points by a certain amount, and in my case my actual rank didn't even decrease....and apparently you can only use it once. I was never able to do it again.

So, maybe you can only use it once a shift? What if you use Demote agian next shift when you're already at Profreshional 0, would you get knocked down rank to Profreshional Part-timer?

@Ralizah Yeah, I'm not clear if there's much rubber banding with Salmon Run's matching & difficulty system. The hazard level never throws you a periodic easy 3-waves. It feels more like, you occasionally luck-out with getting a team of players actually proficient with all the weapons and salmonid strategies. I've been tempted to try demoting myself, but I don't to reduce my earning rate for rewards, unlocking capsules.

I'm kind of surprised we still have the same gear reward over a week later, the Bream-brim Cap. Maybe that will change over the weekend? I thought gear changed weekly in Splatoon 2 Salmon Run? Or did a piece of gear last a month? I don't remember.
