I'm a bit bummed that Mayo won, since I was team Ketchup, but it's all in good stuff.
What did annoy me a lot, was that in many of my matches I was playing other people from team Ketchup. I would have liked to play more people from Mayo, but it's hard when the system doesn't allow you!
And the matchmaking system was a bit unstable. Is that common for the Splatfest?
@Luna_110 By 'unstable', do you mean it kept matching you with players from the same team, or that it kept disconnecting you? If the former, then that's a pretty unavoidable consequence of picking a side that's three times as popular as the other (Ketchup got almost 3/4 of the vote in the Americas). If the latter, then it was pretty rare by the end of the first game, although I remember there being some teething problems at the beginning.
@Maxz
The second one. I haven't hard problems for the normal Regular Battles, but I could never get five battles in a row for the Splatfest, for example.
@Luna_110 Yeah, I think I had two occasions where the system would just give up finding anyone and I'd have to wait until the counter hit zero. It wasn't awful for me - other people seem to have had it worse - but it was noticeably less reliable than playing in either of the standard modes.
I remember the earlier SplatFests having similar issues in the first game, which were later ironed out, so hopefully Nintendo will do something with the data from this Fest. I didn't play the pre-release Splatfest, but I think there were a few issues there too. Hopefully the next one will be more stable. TBH, I don't understand what the cause of the instability is, when the main game seems to run pretty smoothly.
@toaf I'm hoping we'll get some more music in an update at some point (although I don't expect it to be super-soon). I think some of the current tracks are amazing (Inkoming and Don't Slip in particular), but there's not yet the variety found the original. There's currently only one 'band' behind the battle music at the moment, whereas Splatoon 1 had a few fictional bands contributing by the end of it, and there was a noticeable mixture of styles. It only really got that way after the major mid-game update though, so I'm hoping Splatoon 2 will receive a similarly heavy dump of new music and clothing at some point.
If Splatfest seems unstable, it's because an event like this inevitably attracts people with bad connections. Not much can be done about that. I'm also not seeing this EU matchmaking problem myself. I'm in the UK and usually my matches start nice and quick.
Anyways. Today I've abruptly started encountering good charger players, even in Turf War. Just like that, chargers are scary again. Where have these people been hiding?
Coincidentally, I tried out the Firefin Splat Charger in Rainmaker. First time I've felt at all confident with a charger in this game. I wasn't actually getting too many kills, but I definitely felt I was helping through pressure and such. And the Splash Wall is still pretty great. I don't care how much it's been nerfed over time.
Speaking of, everyone please take note that if you have the Rainmaker, blindly charging ahead is not the correct strategy. Let your teammates go first.
That was a good Splatfest. It puts me at ease that the difference of super seashells from winning and losing teams is minimal, 21-24 compared to 18-24 from the 1st. Even though I prefer to fight more of the opposite team to make a difference, at least I can fight for a side that's my favorite compared to a side that wouldn't battle itself often.
@Nicolai@Maxz I'm just remembering back with Splatoon 1 when popularity mattered a bit more they wins, people we're complaining that it doesn't matter how many times you win as long as you're on the popular team. Seeing the results of the wins for both solo and teams, I think it's pretty fair. This is coming from someone who fought his own team 18 times vs 10 from when I start keeping record. They will be salty either way.

I was Team Ketchup, and lost (of course- I'm actually on a trend continuing from the first game where I have never once in my entire life won a single Splatfest). But that doesn't matter, because I still got 13 Super Sea Snails, despite losing and despite only playing for 2 hrs when I woke up at midnight after crashing when home from work.
That's... not bad at all. I only played 20 matches or so total. So I'm very happy with the results. Did a few re-rolls, added a few slots, and tbh I just like the chunks from it. The long game here is to build up enough chunks of everything where I can eventually make the perfect gear. For now though, i've got a pretty rad set. But I won't be using it much because I've got other 4 slotted gear that I need to rank up.

What's you favorite weapon up until now? I barely am level 7, but for now I adore the Splattershot. I'm using the Tentatek Splattershot and I feel really comfortable with it for Turf War.
@ultraraichu Oh yeah, this method is much better. No matter what happens, popularity is only a third of the whole pie. Matters just enough, but its still mostly about the battles.
So... I'm not sure what's going on with the matchmaking system right now. I may create a new room if this continues to happen @Nicolai
Aaaaaand it boots us out because apparently it wasn't finding anyone. Huh. Anyway, I'm going to create a room.
@Luna_110 My favourite is the Carbon Roller, I never used it in the first game, only to give it another shot and find I was a splatting machine with it
As for weapons, Aerospray MG all the way. I find it to get the best ink coverage per second than any other weapon, save perhaps Splattershot Jr (though I think they're pretty close to even), but I don't like Ink Armor so Aerospray wins out in the end.
I've got some rad gear

I feel like this is pretty good for my playstyle in Turf Wars. Obviously I'll be working on some new gear, and my new Ninja Squid set with Stealth Jump and maybe some skills I don't typically use.
@Nicolai Yeah, that's a shame... I don't even think these guys are that difficult, but alas... we don't seem to be doing so hot.
Oh well. We should probably stop for now and just accept our League Power as it is right now... although it's making me a tad salty that we might not be able to raise it any further than it is right now.
