@Professor_Plumber no, no, he wrote it, but his version was cut down since it was a little too "not kid friendly", some of the scenes he wrote did get shot though.
Meh, I'd rather have a non-white Superman movie centred on the American immigration experience. It's been years since they focused on that aspect of him, now America has people chanting build a wall to add to the mix so it can get juicey.
Rachel Brosnahan is an incredible actress, glad she's getting a big pay day. Hopefully it will raise her profile so she can pick some interesting films in the future like Scarlett Johansson who went from being emergency last minute casting in Iron Man to a run of riskier films like Her and Under The Skin.
I've caught this in bits and pieces before, but have never actually sit down to watch the whole thing until now.
It's at that point where it's at the cusp of being just a bit too "before my time", which is why I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much of this I found genuinely hilarious. Not every gag landed, but there were definitely a few that had me in stitches.
InuYasha Movie 4: Fire on Mystic Island (Blu-Ray)
Well animated with some cool action scenes and something for everyone in the cast to do, it's worth a watch for fans of the series, but amongst all of the movies this is the one that most feels "here are a few random baddies who want to take over the world or something" without much else of a hook.
The first two films have moments that seemingly move forward InuYasha & Kagome's romance (even if the events aren't recognized in the series proper), the second movie is the only one that involves the main series villain, movies 1 & 3 connect the big bad to InuYasha's father (with the third movie in particular going massively in depth with that background lore in a way not explored anywhere else in the series), and this movie is just completely lacking in that kinda hook. Sure, they half heartedly jerry rig some connection between InuYasha/Kikyo/Sesshomaru and the mysterious island, but it feels forced comparatively.

After being informed that a certain movie was leaving Netflix tomorrow (along with getting an extremely glowing recommendation by a friend of mine on Twitter), I finally watched Akira for the first time. oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god OH MY F***ING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
I....I'm dumbfounded. This is without question one of the greatest films I've ever seen: the characters, the themes, the utterly HORRIFYING imagery (that I will absolutely be having nightmares over) and good f***ing god THE ANIMATION IS SO FLUID AND REALISTIC AND INCREDIBLE AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I'm sorry I can't really talk more about it (partially because I'm still reeling from what I've just witnessed) but I implore you, if you're able to stomach what it throws at you:
@Fizza We were talking about Akira not too long ago, @Link-Hero is a fan if I remember right.
I dunno myself, it has all the right ingredients of being cool, iconic, cinematic and mind blowing (not just because the guy on the bike isn't Akira, SAY WHAT?) but I wasn't hugely keen on it. It's visually a treat and I do like my sci-fi to be more than pew-pew action but it's probably because I saw a few of the other gateway anime (like Ghost In The Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Studio Ghibli, Rurouni Kenshi, Afro Samurai etc) first so I already had my OMG moment with anime visuals and the third act is little wonky for me probably because it was made up on the spot away from the original manga which might explain it.
finished watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull earlier today. i still think the movie's still pretty good for a movie from 2008. from the bonus features, Spielberg and Lucas couldnt agree on what to include for the main story in the movie where Spielberg at first was joking around with Lucas they should involve aliens. the two kept arguing about it where they finally changed it to where the aliens are interdimensional beings. Good enough but theyre still space aliens aka saucer men from Mars.
Im prepared ready to go see Dial of Destiny at the movie theater this weekend.
then tonight and tomorrow im watching Fast and the Furious 7 and 8 aka Fate of the Furious. then saving Fast and the Furious 9 for July since im sort of getting tired of binge watching the Fast and the Furious movies
anyone know when Fast X is supposed to come out for DVD/blu ray?
@Rambler I liked Blood, it was very moody and crunchy. You got to give credit for restraint too, they have this ageless vampire that looks like a school girl, put her in a school uniform yet subversively they don’t have panty shots, bouncy cleavage and all the boys getting nosebleeds over her despite being an anime! There was a series of it wanted to watch but never got round to it. I hope it wasn’t like Dragonball Z or Bleach where a fight takes 30 episode as they keep pausing to shout out their feelings to each other.
I watched it some what recently but Redline is another gorgeous looking anime. The narrative is paper thin but it looks like a Jack Kirby clone was given steroids and asked to draw his take on anime in a massive angry roid rage scribble.
@XandertheWise I’m looking for forward to Indiana Jones: The New MacGuffin. I don’t really have a favourite movie but Raiders Of The Lost Arc is probably the film I’ve seen the most, I loved it as a kid and it’s always on telly/streaming so I give it another watch as I do stuff. Plus Fleabag is in it. So fudging annoying though I could have seen it an early advance screening but it happened whilst I was away but people who saw it said it’s good/better than Crystal Skull.
Went and saw Indiana Jones & The Dial of Destiny the other day in 4D cinema, and managed to croak out a review despite the loss of half my popcorn thanks to the rollercoaster seat. Read my review at your risk, I've spoiler barred everything.
I thought it was terrible after leaving the cinema, which is odd since I'm usually very positive about them at that point. But now I'd say it's around ⭐⭐⭐ since the good and bad even out to create near apathy. Movies can be both after all.
First half hour was fantastic, obviously reminded me of the older Indy films, and the film gives you a shameless (director James Mangold says it's deliberate) slap in the face by cutting to 70-year old Indy yelling at the neighbours like a typical grumpy old man. Didn't like Fleabag at all, she's basically British Marion, but less funny, less charismatic and far more willing to humiliate Indy on a regular basis. I'd rather they brought back Short Round!
The theme of the movie is that Indiana has aged but this theme feels like an excuse to, again, degrade and humiliate this once great action hero. They get him back with Marion after Crystal Skull and then they split up, again, off-screen and kill his son off-screen, and we're just expected to sit there and take it? I'm glad he still shows his skills on-screen though, even in smaller ways. Marion being in this movie feels like a cynical nostalgia bait, as does the inclusion of Sallah, basically for trailer material. It's telling that John Rhys-Davies didn't want to be in Crystal Skull because he didn't want a cheap cameo, yet that just happened in this one.
But the action's alright, the chase in Tangier is a little uncanny but otherwise felt great in the seat. Love Mads Mikkelsen as the villain, especially the part where they all bring out their fake Nazi uniforms since it really calls back to the past movies. The visual effects are better than Crystal Skill but the final battle scene looks both meticulously detailed and fake at the same time. And I'm glad Indy lives happily ever after instead of being killed off. And the music is John Williams' swansong, and deserves to sweep film score awards.
@TheJGG Is 4D cinema worth it in general? There's a few near me but it's like £25 per seat which seems excessive especially as I have a subscription tix to a different cinema so I can see a film a week anyway.
I'm not clicking on the spoiler bit as I want to act surprised when Fleabag and Indy get married and live happily ever after.
saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at the theater earlier today. I thought it was pretty good even though the beginning of the movie took awhile to get done with the 1930s stuff.

Definitely worth it, but be very careful to hold onto your popcorn since the seats rattled like crazy. The pricing here wasn't that bad, amounted to... maybe a tenner per person at most. Last time I've been to a 4D movie was Shrek 4D so I'll take anything at this point.
Just saw Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken at the local theater. My friend always takes me to the movies, he took me to both Sonic movies, two showings of Trolls World Tour last summer, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and the Mario movie, so I treated him to this one. We both loved this movie. It's so sad it's not doing well a box office, I thought this movie was great. Also, there's a little easter egg in it I think @EaglyPurahfan will like.
Spoiler stuff The movie starts out like an ordinary day in Ruby's life, up until she uses a confetti cannon by accident on the person she wants to ask to the prom, then the movie goes from 0 to 100. Ruby eventually learns about being a kraken, and trains her abilities. The new girl at school finds out that Ruby is a kraken, and Ruby agrees to help her, before a plot twist I was genuinely not expecting. The battle sequence between the krakens and the mermaid gave me anime vibes, and it was a blast. Also, the story of the mermaids vs krakens kind of gave me Trolls World Tour vibes, specifically the musical strings story. I enjoyed this movie a lot and this is one I'm definitely getting once it comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD. Awesome movie.
Don't know if I'm going to go to the movies again anytime soon, so that means all that's left is to wait for Trolls Band Together to come out in November. The wait has been long, boy it's my most anticipated movie this year, I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can when I get to the theater to see it.
