I have a feeling that Pokémon transferred from Gens 1-2 to 7 will have unique stats, hence their incompatibility with older titles (and to prevent ridiculously overpowered attack and/or ability combinations such as No Guard/Fissure Machamp that somebody here pointed out).
Maybe… just maybe Gen 1-2 Pokémon will have no abilities at all (or a specific pre-set ability), or that they will somehow have a new form that resembles what they looked like back in the Gen 1-2 era (which would be really cool). I have a good feeling that Gen 1-2 Pokémon will have something special to offer, but we can only speculate at this point.
So you think Gold/Silver/Crystal will be released on VC later in the year?
I hate the retailer exclusive code approach, I used to go to GAME often so it wasn't an issue but recently Nintendo UK Online Store has improved their preorder promotions so much that there's little point preordering from GAME anymore outside of XB1 stuff.
Okay time to scour the Cerulean Cave. I finished the Elite Four + Rival battle with my team of lovelies
Lv 58 Fearow
Lv 62 Starmie
Lv 61 Venusaur
Lv 60 Butterfree
Lv 59 Arcanine
Lv 60 Clefable
The elite four wasn't as fun as I expected, but I think it's because back in the day I had played against them 200 times because they're the only strong battles (or battles at all) left to do once you finish the game :/
I had a Nidoqueen, Charmeleon, Gyarados, Hypno and Raichu coming out of the Rock Tunnel which I am now using to OHKO most Pokemon, I am nearing the first Giovanni fight with his Kangaskahn. And people say Pokemon has gotten easier lol. I'm thinking my last slot will go to a Pokemon I get in the safari, Pinsir, Dratini, Scyther, Tarous or Kangaskahn. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying playing gen 1 again.
Though they're even more archaic than I remembered. The item limit is a joke, no abilities or natures, moves like bind, sleep inducing moves, karate chop, gust and many more don't work like they should (wrong type or needing to use a turn to wake up that sort of thing) needing to select the Pokemon to use a HM instead of just pressing A next to the tree or boulder the list goes on and on.
I'm currently grinding on the safari zone trying to catch the impossible 4 (chansey, tauros, kangaskhan and pinsir/scyther).... It's not going well.
Anyway, yeah I'm enjoying these much more than I anticipated, specially because I already had the exact same game in physical form... Which for some reason I have a hard time getting back to (I think it's because I can't play it on the go, like with this).
Anyway, my current team and their main uses are:
-Blue, Squirtle. Water and ice. Surfer.
-Nina, Nidoqueen. Ground coverage. Boulder mover.
-Aria, Clefable. Metronome and psychic.
-Fern, Weepingbell. Grass and poison. Cutter.
-King, Persian. Payday and thunderbolt.
-Naga, Dratini. Rookie. Currently useless.
They're on their mid 30's, except for Dratini, who is level 18.

Chansey can be caught in Cerulean Cave as well, I believe. I'm not even sure if I ever caught it in the Safari Zone as it's much harder. I suggest waiting until you reach the Cerulean Cave.
So, you can't really complete the pokedex using only yellow and one of the other two. Since electabuzz and ekans/arbok are exclusive to red, and magmar and meowth/persian are exclusive to blue.
