A nice habit I learned during the Pokemon Stadium era is "always save in a Pokemon center". So whenever I go to one to heal my Pokemon, I save the game.

I keep doing it in the new games, even though there's no real benefit... But at least it means I save the game regularly.

For Misty, my Bellsprout really sweeped her team. With sleep powder, growth and Vine whip.

PSA: Remember to save often. I just accidentally made Pikachu forget Thundershock for Double Team in Yellow and I haven't faced Misty yet. Last time I saved was before Brock. Bulbasaur is too underleveled for the fight.

I did the same thing but I was even earlier in the game, when Pikachu learned quick attack. Good thing I grinded until he learned Slam. I just beat Misty a couple of minutes ago, Nidoking and Butterfree really helped.

So yeah, don't forget to save every once in a while.

Bleh. Why are the Pokemon you can fish so underleveled even near Fuchsia City? I'm grinding Staryu up 15 levels omg. It's a slow leveler too but I've got TMs to make it better, and I need a water type for Surf after the Gym. It's my favorite Pokemon

@Kaocito:

1. Uh, no. Lol

2. No, but I'm unsure whether or not pokemon from gen 1 that know moves they can't learn in later gens keep those moves when you transfer them. I'm leaning on yes though, because it's always been that way before.

3. Another reason...to exist? All remakes are done in the most recent gen of that time, so all Pokemon have different, updated movesets and stuff, and can conveniently communicate with other games of the same gen. For example Heart Gold and Soul Silver can battle and trade with Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum because they're 4th gen games.

4. No.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

@Dankykong: Fishing is specific levels based on the rod. Pretty sure it's level 5 for old, level 15 for good, level 25 for super.

I gotta say, moves like wrap and bind are extremely annoying in gen 1. Coupled with a few attack raising moves it's downright broken. Good thing CPUs aren't smart enough to think of that.

@Detective_TeeJay: Wrap trolled me a few pages back lol The only attack I'm not angry at is Constrict

Did they really not edit anything else? I swear certain attacks like any of the status Powder attacks are doing better than I remember, also Sing, Hypnosis and Recover also are more brilliant than ever before for me in these games. Usually all said moves are just "But it failed..." "But it missed", or wouldn't recover much for me over and over and over, like a good 98% of the time. But nooow I can actually rely on these!! Also Bubblebeam and Psychic still look just as epileptic as ever, so I guess I'd have to bust out the original versions into my GB to compare and contrast. I checked a video of Bubblebeam and I swear it flashes more now than before.

You get flash from one of Oak's aides, in the little gate next to viridian forest. You need cut to get to it, and must have captured at least 10 species of Pokemon to get the HM.

The rock tunnel is pretty easy to navigate without it, and there's no items to miss either (like, none at all). But you can also catch a voltorb before entering it, to serve as a disposable flashlight.

Keep that voltorb around in the PC just in case you need flash again.

I don't miss Flash at all. I disliked it so much back in the day that I learned how to navigate Rock Tunnel without it. IMO, it was probably the most useless HM ever conceived.

Has anyone gotten to any of the legendary birds yet? I recall that pokeballs could (annoyingly) miss in Gen 1 when trying to catch them.

Nobody misses Flash being a requirement but it's still in the current games. Oddly enough it's more useful now than ever before. I didn't even use Flash during this run in Red I'm doing. I didn't need to ruin any movesets.

Oh well then, I'm sure most players will have caught some Pokemon that can learn flash by the time they reach the rock tunnel... Maybe Clefairy.

I have a feeling that Pokémon transferred from Gens 1-2 to 7 will have unique stats, hence their incompatibility with older titles (and to prevent ridiculously overpowered attack and/or ability combinations such as No Guard/Fissure Machamp that somebody here pointed out).

Maybe… just maybe Gen 1-2 Pokémon will have no abilities at all (or a specific pre-set ability), or that they will somehow have a new form that resembles what they looked like back in the Gen 1-2 era (which would be really cool). I have a good feeling that Gen 1-2 Pokémon will have something special to offer, but we can only speculate at this point.

Porygon did nothing wrong.

@sillygostly: I believe they'll be just randomly generated. Which means they'll probably be average at best, and unless the old moves are added as egg moves, very few will be competitively useful. So that's the balance.

To differentiate them, they'll probably have a special descriptor in their sumaries, or a new time travel ribbon.

Also, chances are gender will also be random... So hah, I bet many Marios will end up being Marias and the other way around xD

Just got through the S. S. Anne on Yellow. Current team consists of:

Pikachu, Charmeleon, Ivysaur, Kadabra, Butterfree & Clefairy. All around level 20.

Caught a Magikarp and left him at the Nursery to level up to 20. Cant be bothered to grind the levels up by changing Pokemon in battles, already did that with Abra. Onto Diglett's Cave next before facing Surge.
