Nice one slapshot! I've seen quite a few of these Hitler parodies and they crack me up everytime. This one was hilarious! Especially the part where Hitler is talking about his Atari 2600 with the woodgrain finish, a console of true men.
I'm tempted to not come on PSN for a little while longer and just buy FFXIII for my Xbox 360. Both games are the same anyway.
I don't usually participate in discussions like these, but if you have a PS3 you'll do well in getting FF13 there instead of 360. Both versions will look great, so those with 360's shouldn't worry at all, but if you have the luxury of choosing why not get the best one?
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

Swerd, the reason I thought was obvious: it prevents the user from having to connect online if he does not want to.
As for when else they could make it check, well, I was suggesting they make it optional. There's no reason to force trophy data on everyone. But they could just as well do it in the game data itself. I know people could copy saves from online, but it's not like they get anything for it. Let them fake their data if they want. It'd be some sad life if someone hanged his hat on these meaningless achievements he himself didn't even earn. Doesn't 360 work this way? I don't know.
Even if they couldn't predict this -- which I don't believe for a moment, leap years are the most obvious thing to look for when checking computer calendars -- surely someone at Sony thought, "Hey, something could go wrong with connecting online someday," and whether it would be with calendar or something else, not being able to check trophies would not knock out the majority of games for a day. That kind of thinking is not future-proof or past-proof.
Not that it even made a difference to me. I barely play the thing as of late, and mostly PSOne stuff with the occasional online MvC match with a friend. I wouldn't have noticed at all if Slappy hadn't said anything. But as someone who primarily downloads games, this sort of thing is especially worrisome to me as it shows just how much potential Sony has to inadvertently interfere with its users playing games. Makes me even more glad that Nintendo didn't implement any of this achievement stuff. Having the data in-game is enough for me when I need a challenge, and my games load fine without checking with Nintendo first to make sure it's okay to play today.
It's not just Trophy-enabled games that didn't work, actually. Seems to be some sort of DRM glitch that prevented ANYTHING from working, not just because the consoles were offline but also because the record of when they last WERE online had been corrupted. Anyway, the whole deal's done with now, so it doesn't really matter anymore.

So I went shopping on the Japanese PSN store. First stop was Chocobo Racing - I love it! It's a great throwback to old-style kart racing games, before they got item-happy and filled with "clever" track design.
Also downloaded the King's Field trilogy, but yet to boot it up.
The 5000 yen card goes for $76 on Play Asia, and I'm sure shipping would make that number even less pretty. Smaller amounts are available, but they all cost quite a bit more than I'd expect.

That's not too bad - considering the exchange rate. 5000 yen is their value equivilent of $50, and the Japanese exchange rate is what, .80?
Games are cheaper, too - Chocobo Racing was only 600 yen.
But yes, it's better if you have access to a Japanese credit card <_<
Yep Ive so many times almost bought the overpriced PSN card from Japan.... Einhander is a must have but as soon as I do it will his US PSN that week. lol
@Sean... dude dont sweat it, its a game lol. Ive been playing rough for awhile and then just the last couple of day been on fire lol. Its all good though. I was going to get some more Ratchet on tonight but all the friends hit MW2, cant wait to get back into Ratchet, the new changes to the game are just fantastic.

@WaltzElf: If 5,000 yen equals $50, then 600 yen equals $6, yes? Which means that PS1 Classics aren't cheaper in Japan than they are in America. They probably ARE cheaper than your Australian games, though.
Wasn't it just yesterday I said I wasn't planning to pick up FFXIII at launch? Yeah...I just traded in a bunch of stuff I know I'm never going to play/replay/finish and reserved it. Got so much for the trades that I full-paid the game AND its guide, and STILL had credit left over with which to full-pay reserve Picross DS and put $15.62 on Mario Galaxy 2! I tell ya...50% extra credit deal at GameStop=gold. As in actually makes the trade values decent.

The yen is a little less than .9 to the US dollar now. 5000 yen is about $56 USD. So, you're basically paying an extra $20 plus losing $6 on the exchange rate to import the card BEFORE shipping from HK to the US with playasia. I wonder if there are any Japanese sellers on ebay. That might be one's best bet, since there's not as much of a middle man.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery

Ouch, that sucks, because the Japanese PSN is totally worth a few thousand yen.

I still need to buy Ratchet Future for PS3......lol Also is anyone here buying BC2? I might sell WaW and Cod4 for it.
Oh god...If only we had CoD4 right now....that game is sweet and better than MW2.

Its making a weird noise when I put a disc in. The noise happens rarely tho....but I am worried.
I'll get a video up soon.

Thank you, Token, for not being as lazy as me and actually looking it up. I was certain the rate could not be half as bad as that price indicated, but now I'm doubly certain. Not worth it by any stretch of the imagination.
