FF7 is one of my all-time favorites and I have played probably hundreds of hours total over my lifetime. I had no idea that this was considered a bug, let alone that people were refusing to buy ports unless it was fixed.
People are just cray. It makes me laugh that people are THAT bothered by something SO trivial.
