@Mr_Horizon Just submitted my answers there. Probably my favourite quiz yet to be honest! Great variety in games, hilarious unifying theme and most of them I'm pretty confident in knowing what they were. Keep up the great work man!

I've got mine in as well. Given that there were less than ten I could even make a guess at, I'm not expecting to figure in the results.

Well, I didn't do too badly for a lesbian

I worked out Cyberpunk thanks to the hints, I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Wow, 15 points! I didn't think I'd get that many this time round yet here we are! Very happy with the ones I got right (particularly Muscle March, the only way I knew about that one was because I just so happened to watch a Scott the Woz video with it only a few days before the quiz went live).

Also, the reason I thought Cyberpunk was Wolfenstein was because the tattoo on his chest looked German and the symbol behind him looked like a cropped Nazi emblem, both being things in Wolfenstein. Definitely not the most airtight logic (and when viewing the full image it absolutely does not look like Wolfenstein) but that was my thought process at least.

I think Cyberpunk was hard because it was probably hard to google? Same for ShenMue 3.

@Fizza Muscle March was a rather fun and and enjoyable game. One of the WiiWare exclusives which made the service something special.

Wibblewozzer from the MetaCouncil Forum phrased it as "It's because that's like the least Cyberpunk looking shot you can find." - I have adopted that as the official reason why the answer rate was so low.

New round coming tomorrow! ^_^

June Quiz - Retro Pixel 2022

After last month's theme gave several people a strange browsing history and caused some discontent, we're falling back to familiar territory for June: the annual Retro Pixel Quiz with zoomed in game characters.

We have 25 games with (mostly) 2D graphics from the years 1985 to 2023, so as usual old & new combined for your enjoyment and scaled up so far you could count all the pixels. Have fun!

We're looking for the name of the game and not the name of the character (even if they are sometimes identical), and if you recognise the series that's enough - you don't have to name the exact instalment.

Deadline is Thursday 30th June, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here comes the quiz, good luck:

June Quiz - Clues #1

And once again the puzzle is DIFFICULT. So far 26 participants, very low average score and there's still games that have not been recognised.... Maybe YOU can do it?

Here come the first clues:

1) Eight games in this round have been released exclusively for only one system - three of them for Nintendo GBA and three for Commodore Amiga.
2) Number 6 - in this final part of a platformer trilogy, you play a ...fish.
3) #9 came out exclusively for the Switch in 2017, a sports game with more plot than usual.
4) Game 7 is the only title with 3D graphics in this round, here you are on a relaxing holiday and climb a mountain.

Deadline is Thursday 30 June, please enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/.

Here is the quiz again, good luck: https://i.lensdump.com/i/t4b62o.png

June Quiz - Clues #2

Wow, what a short month: we are actually in the last weekend of June already! The short time meets an extra nasty puzzle where despite forty players (of which none from here) not all games have been recognised yet.
Whether it's 1986 or 2023, Spectrum home computer or Nintendo Switch... here are the last hints, your forum needs you!

1) The games are spread across the decades as follows: three from the 80s, ten 90s, three 00s, six 10s and three from this decade.
2) Numbers 8 & 14 are early spin-offs from famous & long-running JRPG series.
3) Numbers 12 and 17 you can only play on Windows and Switch... but one of them didn't come out yet.
4) The following titles have (also) been released on the Commodore Amiga: 4,6,11,16,19,20,22,25.

Deadline is next Thursday the 30th of June, participation via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

I hoped some of the answers would come to me if I left it to the last minute, but nope

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Fizza

Just got mine done there before heading off on my trip. In short, you'll definitely know the age of gaming I started with XD

Just got mine in.

I think I've done slightly better than last time, but there were still less than half I could even guess at. One did occur to me just after I submitted, but I don't think it'll make a big difference in the grand scheme of things.

Well you are nowhere near last. It is a tough round!

All I can say that you have been "very creative" and left no empty fields. Enjoy your trip!

You did - and your score appears to even be above average... I guess we'll know on the weekend.

@lifer - you okay? Don't worry, we will still love you if your score isn't perfect because you don't find out #24.

@everyone - this round ends tonight!

If it was only #24... I've been away for most of the month and with the recent quizzes having been fairly easy, I totally underestimated the challenge, only checking it out this evening...
Now it'll be my worst month ever. I didn't even get around trying to look some of these up.

Despite missing the top 10 this time, I'm still happy with the result. Are 138 players an all-time high?

@Mr_Horizon Thanks for finally including Solitaire! I'm surprised that you thought it wouldn't be recognized. Across all Windows Solitaire versions, it should still be the most played game of all time. The concurrent version, which does not come pre-installed with Windows anymore, still has over 100m unique users.

But Final Fantasy 2 and Persona (1) aren't really spin-offs, but main line games, aren't they?

Glad to hear.
And yes, 138 is yet another record! Most forums kept their standard numbers in June, but RocketBeans, FontGeek and the new Circuit Board brought in a lot more people than usual.

I wasn't sure about Solitaire - but yes I should have expected at least some of its popularity. Maybe the best position would have been at #25, I sometimes put funny or "unusual" games there if I have any... similar to Minesweeper in the Puzzle games round.

Did I call the JRPGs spin-offs...? oh dear, I did. 😯 But not in german, only in english? Maybe I was tired when I translated. 🤷‍♂️

July Quiz - Gaming Maps

Well, when was the last time you drew a map yourself in a video game? I think my last really big dungeon map was in the RPG Ishar 2 in the 90s, in my old math exercise book... after that, small stuff at most. This round is about all kinds of "maps" - from futuristic radar UIs to classic dungeon crawlers, from transparent automaps to floor plans scribbled on paper.

So, how many do you know? And bonus question, where did I take the map from the intro picture from?

Once again, I'm sure I've left out a lot of really great games because I simply didn't know them (or the titles were already in previous rounds). Leave me a comment with your favourite missing map?

Deadline is Sunday 31st of July, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here's the quiz, grab your compass and let's go!
