@AlexSays
Those horns are originally Latin American tradition, they're called cornettas and they have been used in Brazil, and other South/Central American countries for as long as I remember whereas 'vuvuzelas' appeared in Africa mid 90's. In Brazil, the fans use cornettas in moderation along with other instruments to cheer on the teams. I think that in Africa they are using this instrument in excess to the point that it's affecting some (maybe not all) of the players. Also, I don't think that taking the horns away from fans would take the fire from the crowds and make it less exciting. I have been to countless soccer games and there has been LOTS of fire and excitement without excessive use of deafening (+/- 120db) horns. Cornettas/vuvuzelas don't make fans, passion for football does.

BTW
Congrats to Germany for the first ass-whoopin in the World Cup. Feel bad for Australia though.

Well as out-of-touch as I am with my Latin American soccer traditions, I never meant to imply they're ONLY an African thing.

And sure the World Cup would still be exciting and all, but horns obviously add some of that fire or they wouldn't have sought permission to use them.

That and the people wouldn't be blowing for ninety minutes for no reason (lord knows I can't find anyone that will)

I'm also glad I showed my preference to Germany way before they played, so people don't think I'm now jumping on the ass-kicking bandwagon.

@AlexSays
Ok, I see. Did you know there is actually a committee formed to outright ban those things? Lol, it's not going to happen. It's rare, but I have seen people who blow those horns for the full 90 minutes, excluding half time and the time they use to take their next breath obviously. And I've seen one person faint from it... horns + alcohol = bad idea.

If my kids ever ask me to describe the World Cup 2010, I'll just say "People blowing horns."

And f***ing Germany. They think they're so good....

From the 8 groups, the two teams at the top after each team has played 3 games go into the next round, so 16.

We can still pull through.

I'll try to catch the match as much as (and if) possible. Being Dutch I'll obviously be cheering for the Netherlands.

Go, Orange Lions!!!

LOL! What a nice header by Poulsen with a ricochet off of Agger... to bad it was a goal against his own team! Oh man, there have been a couple nice mess ups this World Cup so far.

Nice move by Poulsen to prevent Netherlands' 3rd goal. Seems like he redeemed himself. And it's 2-0 for Netherlands.

I just can't help busting on Green. Although I should be thanking him as we would have lost without that goof up.

Hey...good luck to Italy today!
