Verge have just leaked that there will be a new switch pro that comes with nicer screen ( OLED ) and 4k capability, what do you think of the news and do the upgrades make it sound like a better purchase.
Will be a wait and see for me, but who am I kidding it’s probably a day 1. If they do pull off 4k, I’ll be interested to see how many (if any) already released games get an upgrade to run on the new hardware.
@pixelpatch I have not, but I could see why people would be interested. For me, that alone would not be worth the price as it seems to just be making image corrections vs any actual upscaling (from what I saw). Granted I’m looking on my phone, but the comparison images are difficult to tell apart, except some sharpening and clarity-type adjustments, maybe. That’d be something I’d definitely want to see in person before getting, but again I don’t think it’s for me. Thanks for referencing it, tho, I do like new (to me) gadgets!
@Eel yea and no. I get what you are saying, nothing is official until Nintendo announces it. That being said, there are known verified devs that have stated they have it. Like it’s not a rumor the dev kits are out. The only thing we need to know now are the actual specs and when it will launch.
I wish the handheld upps the screen res. I understand they want to spare the battery, but the games look quite grainy still. Its not a deal breaker, as long as the games are fluid. I feel Nintendo should push the gardware a bit more, since being able to see further gives a significant advantage in shooting games- and that might be the reason, why N still doesnt have a great TPS on Switch- something of a high caliber like LOS or MGS.
If its just a visual upgrade then I will skip it, it needs a significant power boost not a lick of paint to make it look pretty.
Ignore 4k, Its not the screen resolution that stops Apex and Crash 4 from displaying in HD.
My original switch is gradually falling apart and I've been holding off on replacing it on the off-chance Nintendo announces the "Pro" for the better part of 2 years now, so I'm hoping the current batch of rumours are true and we see it announced in the coming months. (I play docked a lot, especially since the start of Currently Ongoing Global Events keeping me inside much more, so whilst I was tempted to pick up a Lite I think I'd miss that functionality too much)
Pretty solid chance at some point I'll go "eh, might as well", buy a new regular Switch, weeks before Nintendo announces the Pro.

I honestly don't buy the rumors. These are the same rumors that frankly get recycled every single year. Not to mention, analysts usually say things to get people to buy more into a companies stock, as their job is literally to predict the course of a company based on trends in the stock market.

It happened, I got paid and went "eh, might as well" and bought a replacement Switch, so look forward to the Switch Pro being announced some time within the next fortnight
