Topic: Metroid: Is Nintendo trying to kill it?

@Octane Then that just goes back to the simple reality that Nintendo needs time to plan out and develop a new Metroid game that the fanbase won't vehemently despise. They already tried "Throwing a new Metroid out in the wild" in the form of Federation Force. As for how well that goes, well...this thread's existance should say more than enough on that subject.

@CanisWolfred They should've done that ages ago in my opinion. They currently don't even have a dedicated Metroid team, and that's the issue. Getting a team together to develop a main series entry is almost impossible. Unless they outsource another developer...

But not really, as the game had been planned for a very long time. Basically, there was always a Metroid game in mind, but it just happened to always be this one that we didn't fully know about until it finally became a concrete game (also because they didn't want Next Level to make a 2d Metroid).

Tbh, I would've just tried to get the Shadow Complex guys to make, since despite some differences and a boring aesthetic, it's the best post-Prime 3 Metroid game.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

I can't argue with that last point. That game was one helluva time. We've had a quite a few good 2D Metroids game, actually. I wonder if Nintendo just doesn't want to have to compete in a space they used to exemplify without a surefire way to stay on top? I wouldn't blame them at least. The competition's pretty stiff.

There's no conspiracy theory as to why fan made stuff was pulled. It was Nintendo protecting their I.P. that's all. Blizzard did the same thing a few months ago with a fan made Vanilla server for WoW. You honestly can't believe that Nintendo or any company will just let anyone use their I.P. without permission.

Nevermind multiple takedown requests to Overwatch fan artists on websites like Tumblr and the source filmmaker community (which only slowed them down rather than stop 'em). It's smarter on their end to protect their assets when they can. However, I will admit that I wouldn't mind if they allowed for more freedom for fan communities in general, provided no one was profiting from it. Heck, in Japan, people can profit in small amounts so long as they make it clear that it's just a fan project. That comes with problems of its own, though, if KanColle is any indication...

The problem is if they let one person do it then they will have to let everyone do it. Suppose I did an X-rated Pokémon game didn't collect money for it but you know it was essential porno and was a fan made project. Let say Nintendo took mine down but didn't take Pokémon Uranium down. I could now argue and take them to court over it. That's way sadly they do it.

But you're peddling porn. Who the hell would take you seriously? At least Pokemon Urianium wasn't literally raping their franchise.

And yes, as far as I can tell, that's one of the excuses they got over in Japan. Unless it's absolutely necessary, it seems that they're better off refusing to acknowledge the existance of those doujinshi works, rather than dealing with them in court. After all, a giant doesn't need a bazooka to swat a fly...

@CanisWolfred But it was a fan made Pokémon game made for mature audiences. See where I am going with it. The argument isn't if it's morally or tastefully the fact is they are both fan made games, not making a profit for the creators or the fan made games. Why should mine be takin down while theirs stays up.

And that's why companies protect their I.Ps.

It'd still draw unwanted attention, man. Or did you forget how they became a laughing stock for while when they asked a porn site to take down a video because of the actress' tattoo? Just bringing up the subject furrows some brows, and can be bad publicity if handled poorly, or too often.

I know what you're trying to say overall, Tasuki, I'm just saying that you picked a bad example. I don't mind them protecting their profits, but Nintendo in general needs to learn to pick their battles better. "The nail that sticks out shall be hammered down" seems to be the usual way of handling fan projects, and it seems that Nintendo's "carpenter" has a bit of OCD...

@CanisWolfred Ok well replace X-rated with M rated then and make it ultra violent where you can run around wearing a decapitated Pikachu's head as a hat, idk, lol. Point is in this day and age they really can't choose which ones to take down and which ones not to. Even if one is distasteful in someone's eyes and the other one isn't the one that got pulled will argue that. Remember we live in an age where everyone has to be treated equal.
