Has anyone noticed that rarely new franchises are releaseed and companies are relying to much one old franchises? Such as Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong? Anyone agree?

Well, companies are often driven by cash, so it's no wonder they won't make new IPs. Why make a new game when you could just make a sequel that'll sell millions of copies? This, however, isn't a problem that's just sprung up in the games industry. This problem has been going on for quite some time, now, and, if left unchecked, will continue to exist. The thing is, people will often cry out for companies to make new franchises, but when those companies finally do, gamers won't buy them. When brand-new games like The Wonderful 101 flop, it helps teach companies that new IPs are synonymous with failure, and will instead choose to pump out sequel after sequel after sequel. We can help end this issue by buying games that are part of new franchises, but if we don't do something about this, I don't see this issue improving at all.

Tons of new material is released all the time. It just doesn't get reported as much as the sequels, because, well the sequels are the money-makers. Don't blame Nintendo. Blame the free market that demanding more Mario.

@Velostar No, I just want to know peoples opinions on this matter
Also, I fully support Nintendo, but I usually stick to RPG's with free roam, and they are really linear in game design. Right now, I'm looking forward to Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, SSB, and the unannounced Zelda U, and sadly, None of these are new original games, but are based off past iterations. Nintendo does have many franchises that cover a lot of game types such as rpg and racing, but maybe something different. I might of got W101, but the thing that pushed me from it was it's demo. I don't like when the camera in the games are at fixed points

I notice but I also notice that no one pays attention to new franchises unless it have a sequel(s), lead by a popular individual(s), old enough for rerelease, or is in a smash bros game.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

i thought wonderful 101 was a sequel to wonderful 100 (gcn)
edit: looked into it, the project was original but started off in development for wii, please understand
Although some series are constantly re-hashed, sometimes these new series get new life surged into them. Games like A Link Between Worlds or Mariokart 8 breathe new life into old series.

yeah there's a significant difference in making sequels and making sequels that make the series feel old and overdone (compare the NSMB sequels to Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon or Pikmin 3 for example)
@Nintendo_Ninja I felt a link between worlds was almost exactly the same thing as alttp, except for the merge ability. If the overworld was bigger (or better) it would of been different, but Miyamoto wanted an alttp remake. He didn't want to remake Majoras Mask as fans requested, or hash out a completey different Zelda, he wanted alttp. Luckily Aunoma wax there and got a bit different story out. I believe Miyamoto needs to retire and leave zelda and mario to other people
