That's strange, I get what you're talking about though. I've had times where I am kind of awake, but not. Never had anything vivid though, then again, my dreams I can't remember and when I do are very vivid, or what is important about them is vivid. It will be a certain state that it will occur in and it is likely a product of your mind combining what it can see with the dreams. The setting is generally of ill-importance in your dreams, so it seems natural to set it to a well-known or bland setting. I should ask the sleep research team here if they've ever heard of anything like that before.

I've experienced sleep paralysis before. Pretty scary stuff. It happens so rarely that I just chalk it up to a REALLY bad nightmare.
It's so realistic though.... I feel lucid and aware of my surroundings, but cannot move. Now the terrifying part is when my active imagination kicks in, and start thinking of reasons WHY i'm immobilized, and my halfway coherent brain runs wild with speculation based in reality (Am I dying, or having some kind of attack?) or fantasy (Am I freaking UNDER attack by someone or someTHING?)

I've been ill with an undiagnosed whacky gland problem(it's been a big Doctor party ever since) for over 3 years now, and Insomnia is just one of the symptoms out of the whole horrible package. When i was healthy, i could sleep like a rock and I got 8-9 hours and woke up feeling fantastic. Now, sleeping is almost impossible when it actually comes to trying to fall asleep. I usually try and go to bed at 11:00-1:00 and it takes hours to fall asleep. I lay there for 4-5 hours usually and luck out and fall asleep. the good thing is that i do usually get 8 hours, but i'm on sleeping meds...then again, they don't even work. The other problem is the bad jead pressure and heart palputations that go on along with it.

During the day it's alittle easier for me to fall asleep, but that would be a bad idea. godddd i wish i were healthy again, people take being healthy for granted and i was definitly one of them

What is Insomniacs?

I can stay awake all the time.
Its 7am and I haven't slept at all. lol

Although I do sleep through the day and wake up at around 6pm. lol
I'm way too lazy.

Insomnia is a condition where you usually cannot get to sleep. Your usually an insomniac if it takes your more than an hour to get to sleep.

That sounds scary! I've actually been in a simular state or position. I'm aware of my surrounding, I'm half awake yet I can't move, and if i don't try to move I slowly slip back into the dream....And if that dream's a horrible nightmare, than it's even worse of coursse. This actually happened a few days ago and it's definitly scary.

Also, I was watching an Italian Horror movie called 'The Beyond' last week and this scene stood out....Just imagine that you are aware of your surroundings yet you can't move in this scenario

Start it at around 40:00

I used to be out cold pretty quick as a kid. These days I constantly struggle getting to sleep. I lay there for 3 hours or more and I'm still awake. When ever I do finally sleep I wake up with sleep paraylysis. If you've never heard of that it's really scary stuff. You are awake but temporarily paralyzed. You can't move at all but you are awake. During this temporary inability to move you sometimes will see things that aren't really there. I woke up once and thought I saw a wolf sitting on my chest and snarling at me. Scared the hebe jebes out of me! I heard that too much caffine before going to bed can cause it.

I have something like that sometimes, when I'm in that state between being completely asleep and being completely awake. It's really scary. I know I'm awake but yet, I'm still dreaming at the same time. Reality and dream start to intertwine. I really have to focus to move one of my limbs to step out of the dream and into the real world. If I'm aware I'm dreaming I can usually sorta force myself to wake up.

It's really weird and it's hard to explain. Only very rarely it happens, though. It usually happens when I have a scary dream. That often triggers me to wake up. However, sometimes I get stuck in a semi-sleep state in which I'm too paralyzed to completely wake up at first.

I've recently bought a Paul Mckenna book called "I Can Make You Sleep", I'll have a little read of it soon and share it here

@link.... yeah man you, me and pretty much everyone else gets the exact same reaction. I have a really great website that is small and everyone in there has some form of narcolepsy or insomnia and deal with all the major issues with severe narcolepsy everyday. I learned a lot there and I would be happy to email you the site address. No offense to anyone in these forums but I don't want any harrasment there as they have severe problems.

I usually take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to fall asleep, but I don't really think it's insomnia. My mind just tends to wander when it's dark.
Another thing, If I get used to waking up at 6:00, I'll ALWAYS wake up at 6:00, no matter what time I fall asleep. I never feel tired after waking up, either.

Just let it happen.

I have to wake up at 5:30 every morning, so I'm definitely not an insomniac.

I can get to sleep just fine. I have sleepless nights every once in a while, but that's only because I'm thinking of a lot of stuff.
