Topic: put the comment box before the comments

i dont like how you have scroll through comments just to comment i'm suggesting being able to have the comment box on the top before the comments more eaiser on people

I assume the idea is that this way you'll end up reading a few of the comments before posting yours

@tomtheduck I don't know how it looks in your browser, but with mine, the comments don't show until I click on them to show. So if I leave the comments alone unclicked, the comments box is right there waiting for me without having to scroll through other comments.

Yeah, so as the others have mentioned, the logic here is that people should be encouraged to read other comments first, rather than posting "blindly" as they might just be repeating what someone else has said. I do intend to redesign the comments UI at some point though, so it may change on day

I like it, having to scroll through the comments gives you chance to read other people's views and engage rather than just posting your opinions.
The problem i find is that I tend to get sidetracked replying to a comment instead of posting the comment I had intended.

Some articles have hundreds of comments you'll have to scroll down entirely, whether you read them or not.
Maybe it'll be an idea to display the comments in pages of 20 comments each.

Don't click on the Load comments link and you don't have to scroll past any. Maybe that's just on mobile browsers though. Does anyone seriously still browse sites like this with a PC?

I can confirm that you have to scroll on PC.

That said...it should take about half a second, so doesn't seem like an issue to me?

I do use a computer as well.
Bigger screen and way easier to type.

@gcunit Yes, that's just on mobile devices. I've browsed NL on both my PC and smartphone. On PC, everyone's comments are shown right off the bat.

@ophone Agreed. I don't like typing on smartphones that much. On my particular phone I tend to type the wrong key by accident, because of how small they are.

It would be nice if my reply to the comment went under the comment I was replying to. After a few back and forth things can get a little confusing with how things are setup up now.

It would be nice if each original comment had its own drop down section for replies related to that comment.

@PuppyToucher that would be nice, or if the @mention could come with a link to jump to the post you're replying to.
