A variety of different craft to pick with different offensive options, varied stages and enemies come together to offer a fun, frantic challenge that caters to players of all abilities. Lives and credit options mean high-score chasers (and those using their system) will need to show restraint if they take such things seriously, and it is a shame there is no high score mode with enforced restrictions. The option to play in TATE mode adds to the appeal and the two-player feature is a good option when looking for quick bout of competitive gaming. If Strikers 1945 is an indication of the quality of titles Zerodiv will be bringing to the eShop, then Switch owners are in for a treat.

Strikers 1945 kicks off a short series of solid, highly-enjoyable vertically-scrolling arcade shoot-'em-ups from Psikyo. The principal gimmick here is that you can select from a variety of World War II-style fighter airplanes, based on real aircraft like the P-51 Mustang and A6M Zero, and each has its own unique default weapons and "smart bomb" special attacks.

The bosses are all giant military equipment, like battleships and tanks, which transform during the battle into huge mechs. The action is fast-paced, and you can zip through the entire campaign in under 15 minutes. This is a good thing, as the ability to chase high scores with various aircraft and higher difficulty levels should keep you coming back.

The graphics are very nice, using the "prerendered low-rez CG sprites" look popularized by contemporary titles such as Capcom's Giga Wing, the latter of which appears to have taken influence from the Strikers 1945 series. The music is fine, if forgettable.

A wide spectrum of difficulty levels make Strikers 1945 accessible to players of all skill levels. If you enjoy vertical scrolling shooters at all, you're sure to have a good time. Highly recommended!
