About
Ninjutsu master Joe Musashi returns in this classic side-scrolling platformer. Utilize shurikens, throwing knives, and more to defeat the enemy and free the hostages. Need more time? Use the rewind feature to move back in time to make sure you’re using your best moves.
Challenge the SEGA AGES version of Shinobi by using the newly added melee button for a special bonus score. Or if you prefer something more achievable, try out the AGES mode and Joe Musashi will have upgraded weapons and increased durability.

Shinobi as a game has aged extremely well – it’s still an absolute blast to play today – and that goes a long way to making this a worthy download. The excellent variety of stages and enemies complement the tight gameplay which still feels spot-on even compared with later entries in the series, and its rather fanciful representation of ninjas is difficult to get too upset about when it’s just so much fun. We’d frankly like to see some later Sega games appearing in the Sega Ages range at some point, but it’s great to see a return to the company's heritage after some of the other more questionable releases.

BEST GAME EVER I PLAYED. A LONG TIME I WAS TRY TO GET THE GMAE BUT I DIDNT SUCSESS. HOPE I WIIL ENJOY IT. As usual, M2 has done superb work here, making the original game not only flawless on Nintendo Switch, but much more accessible and enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Chief among these quality-of-life features is the ability to continue after losing all remaining lives in the game's final stage. The arcade board was notorious for forcing players who made it all the way there but failed to restart the entire game from the beginning. That nonsense is optional here.

Shinobi is in many ways the original true ninja action game. This SEGA arcade classic combines fast-paced action and solid visuals with a great soundtrack to make for a nearly perfect arcade experience.

Highly recommended for fans of arcade action platformers! Similar games include Rolling Thunder (available in Namco Museum) and Bad Dudes (sadly, no longer available on the eShop as of 2025).
