All told, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 feels like a letdown compared to the stellar presentation of its predecessor. Missing features and lower quality games easily make this the more skippable of the two, although that doesn’t necessarily mean that this is a bad collection. We’d recommend this to any fans of the Mega Man series – 9 and 10 just about justify the collection on their own – but those who are looking to get their feet wet may want to pass on this and just get the first collection. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is good, but it’s not great, so think twice before taking the plunge.

It feels like Capcom put all its effort into the excellent original Mega Man: Legacy Collection, and just did the bare minimum for its follow-up. This is really too bad, because there are some pretty solid games in here, and they deserve better.

Mega Man 7 is a solid if unspectacular experience from the SNES that is still inferior to its earlier counterpart, Mega Man X. Mega Man 9 and 10 were WiiWare titles in the mid-2000s that attempt to bring back the classic series style, and mostly succeed. Mega Man 8 is by far the weakest game in either Mega Man Legacy Collection package, with infamously terrible voice-acted cutscenes and some absurd difficulty spikes.

All the flaws of these games could have been greatly reduced had Capcom simply given them the same treatment as the first six games, with modern quality-of-life features like save states and a rewind button. Instead, they are little more than the original ROMs with some fancy backgrounds. This collection could have been so much more. Skip it unless you're a hardcore Mega fan like me.
