About

With Nintendo Switch, fans can enjoy the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 anywhere, anytime, even with up to 8 friends in local wireless multiplayer.

All your favourite tracks and characters return from the Wii U version, plus all DLC tracks and characters, and new characters join the roster, too: Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.! Plus, battle Mode has been revamped and includes Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast, with all-new courses such as Urchin Underpass and Battle Stadium, and returning ones like (GCN) Luigi's Mansion and (SNES) Battle Course 1. Players can now carry two items at a time, including new items returning from previous Mario Kart games such as Boo, the item-stealing ghost, and the Feather, which gives you a high jump in battle mode. Players can even choose to use a new Smart Steering feature which makes driving and staying on the track easy for novice players and kids, even at 200cc. Play in TV mode in up to 1080p.

When it comes to passing final judgement on a re-release like this it's tricky - do we scale back praise because it's content we've mostly seen before, or simply judge a release on its own merits? We've opted for the latter here, and so we have a definitive version of a fantastic Wii U game that adds its own extras to spruce up the experience.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe delivers a huge amount of racing goodness right out of the box, and it's a polished version of a Wii U entry that was a proper Battle Mode away from being top of class. Now that issue has been addressed, what we have is arguably the best Mario Kart release we've seen. Some will argue about where this entry stands in the pantheon of the franchise, but for our money it's competing for top spot.

It's the definitive Mario Kart 8 experience, content-rich and a delightful feast of comedic, cartoonish karting action. It's a game that continually raises a smile and, occasionally, induces that trademark Mario Kart rage as shells strike and positions are lost. It's addictive and unifying, unfiltered fun that draws in anyone daring enough to take up the wheel. If you're a Switch owner, it's an easy choice.

This is easily the best Mario Kart game today even though it is rather old in hindsight. However there are a laundry list of awesome and unique characters, including those from other games as well as other tracks from older Mario Kart games and even other series like f-zero, excitebike, The Legend of Zelda and even Animal Crossing. The DLC even added even more characters and more tracks, it's like extra icing on an already perfect cake. It controls absolutely excellently, the drifting feeling extremely good and honestly the controls just feel like the culmination of perfection throughout the series. I look forward to seeing what comes next

Mario Kart 8 was arguably the best Wii U game, and its revival on Nintendo Switch is even better. Not only is it the fastest, best-playing, best-sounding, and best-looking game in the series, it just might be the best racing game ever. With astonishing new content support that lasted six years and brought its total number of tracks to a whopping 96 courses, MK8D essentially has the entire Mario Kart series in one convenient package. The only thing keeping it from absolute perfection is the blasted Spiny (blue) Shell, the most unfair and unhelpful item in the history of video games.

Probably one of the best games Nintendo have ever produced. With the DLC there are 96(!) tracks, most of which are excellent. Balancing seems the best of all the Mario Kart games to date and is absolutely packed with content.

Still playing this game regularly after 8 years... says it all really.
