With over 100 cars and more than 25 different racing venues set over five distinct disciplines (as well as bonus DLC ones like destruction derby and drag racing), GRID Autosport is that rarest of beasts: a jack of all trades that doesn't sacrifice quality as a result. The addition of all previously released paid console DLC – right down to the cynical XP boost – is extremely welcome, but the complete removal of all local and online multiplayer features means this a strictly solo affair, and that might be a turn-off for many. Still, that doesn't change the fact that this is one of the best racing games on Switch.

The Nintendo Switch is not a great system for realistic / simulation racing games. There are few choices in this somewhat niche genre, occupied on more powerful platforms by series like Gran Turismo and Forza. While GRID Autosport is not quite in the same category as either of those standout franchises, it does a heck of a job filling the "realistic racing" slot on NS.

In truth, this is a PS3 game, so the Switch shouldn't have any trouble running it well. The good news is that it does; performance mode is an almost perfect, constant 60fps, which is essential for this type of game. The visuals still look good, and the controls are solid.

The game itself is deep, with lots of racing categories and real-world vehicles, sponsors, and tracks.

The immersion is pretty great, too. If you have a relatively-common name, as I do, you can set the game's voiceovers to address you by your name, which is a nice touch.

As for gameplay, it's great! The racing is rock-solid and there are plenty of accessibility options to ensure anyone can enjoy the various racing disciplines, regardless of skill level.

The only major downside for some is that this is strictly a single-player game. There is no local or online multiplayer available.

Highly recommended to hardcore racing fans who want something on the go.
