Super Punch Patrol feels like a greatest hits package, but that's the thing about the greatest hits – they're great. And so is Super Punch Patrol, in the end. For the price you'll pay, it's nothing short of spectacularly generous; there are only five stages, but they're tough as old boots and it'll take time to master the challenge and see those credits roll. With costumes and characters to unlock there's reason to keep playing even after you surmount this beastly little brawler, and at £4.99 it's a bit of a no-brainer.

The first thing you'll notice about Super Punch Patrol is developer Bertil Horberg's distinctive art style. I'd describe it as "constantly-animating colored pencil sketches." It really stands out, and helps this game feel sharp and fun, even if it isn't a terribly innovative brawler.

As far as gameplay goes, this is a pretty standard beat-'em-up. It draws heavy inspiration from some of the genre greats: Final Fight, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Double Dragon. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and is deliberately campy in its character design.

If you've played any of Horberg Productions other games, you know what to expect: that characteristic art direction, punchy acoustic guitar-driven soundtrack, responsive controls, a little bit of floatiness in jumps, and just an all-around good time.

Highly recommended for fans of belt scrollers.
