Nintendo is understandably keen to bulk out the Switch's year-one library of titles, so it's hardly surprising that we're getting re-releases like Pokkén Tournament DX – especially when you consider that the Wii U version didn't get the additional fighters that were introduced in the arcade. Pokkén is also a solid choice for Switch because it perfectly suits the console's local multiplayer ethos; the game's control scheme fits perfectly on a single Joy-Con, which means you can take the fight with you anywhere you wish. Whether or not the five additional Battle Pokémon and the light dusting of additional modes and features will be enough to convince existing Pokkén fans to upgrade so soon after the Wii U version remains to be seen, but taken on its own merits this is comfortably one of the the best fighting games on the Switch right now, and offers surprising depth, stunning presentation, brilliant offline and online multiplayer modes and bags of replayability.

Nearly eight years on, there are no Tekken games available for Nintendo Switch. Pokken Tournament DX is as close as we'll get, but that's not a bad thing. A Pokemon fighting game is a great idea, and Pokken Tournament is about the best we can expect from that concept. Pokemon fans will find plenty to like, and casual fighting game fans will enjoy the easy-to-learn techniques and combos. I'm not sure there's enough depth here to keep pure fighting gamers happy, but I certainly enjoyed my own time with it.

Honestly this is a very underrated fighting game, I'm surprised no one had ever come up with this beforehand, an actual Pokemon fighting game is truly awesome. Extremely beautiful graphics, as well as incredibly epic fighting moves and abilities, and a wide list of popular Pokemon to choose from as well as decent stages and unique features in terms of fighting. This is definitely a fighting game I would recommend to someone who wants to experience something new and interesting but still similar, especially if you're a fan of the Tekken series
