About
Bring the Nintendo World Championships to your living room
Test your speedrunning skill in over 150 challenges! Each challenge relives a memorable moment from one of 13 NES™ games*, including classics like Super Mario Bros.™ 3, The Legend of Zelda™, Donkey Kong™, and Metroid™. Start small by seeing how quickly you can blaze through the first level of Super Mario Bros. or how fast you can gobble up an enemy in Kirby’s Adventure™*. Hone your skills in practice and see if you have what it takes to be a champion—the tougher challenges may truly test your limits!
Nintendo World Championships: NES™ Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch™ system on July 18.
Compete against players around the world online**
Jump into the World Championship Mode with a Nintendo Switch Online membership** and aim for a spot on the leaderboards in five challenges that rotate each week. At the end of each week, compare your times against players of varying skill levels, or sit back and watch the world’s best time to learn how to improve. With "byte-sized" challenges, you don't need to master entire games to feel like a Nintendo World Champion!
Challenge your friends*** on the couch
Gather up to 8 players in the local Party Mode to take on challenges individually or in themed Challenge packs. With an automatic rewind feature to undo mistakes, even completely new players can compete.
You will be able to play with Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers**** as well (sold separately).

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition doesn't make a great first impression. It's a downgrade in many ways to NES Remix and there's not as much variety or effort put into the challenges, nor any graphical tweaks to speak of this time around. However, stick with it, get into the competitive mindset, and start collecting up all the pins, icons, and top-ranked times on offer, and you may find yourself fully entertained. It's a slight thing, purely speed-focused, but we expect that'll suit plenty of folk who want a competitive outlet to display their old-school skills. And hey, it also doubles as a handy history of some iconic Nintendo gaming moments and mechanics.

What a letdown! I loved the NES Remix games on Wii U, so I had high hopes and pre-ordered Nintendo World Championships.
|The good:
- Some decent challenges pulled from NES games
- Fast and responsive menus and controls
- I enjoy seeing how my times stack up against other players in the weekly challenges
- It's fun trying to collect all the pins and player icons
|
The bad:
- Some of the challenges are unreasonably long and absurdly difficult (particularly the Kid Icarus Twinbellows challenge)
- The Kirby's Adventure challenges are pretty much all terrible
- The weird online ranking system is deliberately confusing
- No "live" online competitions
- Not a whole lot of replay value after you've earned every badge and icon

I didn't play the local multiplayer mode, so I can't comment on that.Overall, I really wish we'd just gotten a port of NES Remix 1 & 2 or Ultimate NES Remix, from the same developer.
