Inside is a grimly beautiful platform-puzzler that, while brief, is packed full of jaw-dropping highlights. While its dark tone won't be for everyone, it's all been executed brilliantly, with gently taxing physics-based conundrums woven into a haunting wordless narrative.

Inside is easily described as a 2.5-D side-scrolling puzzle adventure with some creepy horror elements, but it is so much more than that. In fact, I don't really want to offer any more detail; it is really best to go into this game blind, not knowing anything about it. I did, and the experience was so much better for it.

In addition, I suggest playing its spiritual predecessor, Limbo, first. That game is also available on Nintendo Switch platforms. I played them back-to-back, in release order (Limbo, then Inside), on consecutive days. It made for an unforgettable experience.

90 percent of the game is sublime and deserves a score of 9 or 10 out of 10. I gave it an 8 only because of the divisive ending, which left me both bewildered and slightly disappointed. I didn't love how the developers chose to end the story, but I absolutely did NOT see it coming. I'll leave it at that.

As I write this, Inside is on sale for $2. It's inexcusable not to try it at that discount, but I still recommend it at full price. It belongs in every Nintendo Switch / NS2 owner's library.
