Inti Creates has announced that its new roguelike deckbuilder Card-en-Ciel will be launching digitally on the Switch on 24th October, 2024.
You play as Neon and must collect and battle with over 300 cards across 10 unique dungeons, strenthening your deck with new abilities as you progress. In addition, special 'Muse' cards can also be activated during battle, utilising the power of over 50 vocal music tracks included in the game.
Those familiar with Mega Man: Battle Network and its sequels will no doubt be quite taken with the gameplay showcased here, which looks remarkably similar to Capcom's tactical RPG series.
Also included with the Japanese physical edition (with more information on the Western release at a later date) is the spin-off title Divine Dynamo Flamefrit, which originated as an April Fool's joke from Inti Creates, but is actually a real game taking inspiration from the worlds of Card-en-Ciel. Phew!
Divine Dynamo Flamefrit is a 2D action title taking inspiration from robot anime from the '90s. Its gameplay is primarily presented in a top-down isometric viewpoint, but then shifts into a first-person perspective when boss battles occur, during which you fight with the robot companion Flamefrit.

Card-en-Ciel includes over 300 different cards featuring characters from in-universe video games, each with their own personality.
Every card is fully voiced, from when you first earn it to when you use their special abilities in battle. They'll even react when you're doing well or in trouble, and talk to their friends and enemies while idle! The characters on your cards come alive thanks to the "Link Etude System" in Card-en-Ciel.
In addition to in-universe game characters, INTI CREATES game characters are also featured on cards!

Have to play the Mega Man Battle Network games first and foremost now that they're on Switch, but if I enjoy those as I expect to do I might then get this game, too!
This looks right up my alley. Haven't played Mega Man Battle Network in YEARS...
I just hope I'm not THAT rusty when playing this. Again it's been years since...uh...2004.

No mention of Laruku?
Some of that English VO is pretty rough, but I expect that Japanese VO will be an option. Nonetheless, the dungeons just look a little… soulless? I hope there will be something good at the end of this rainbow, but what they’ve shown has me skeptical.
Wow! So this is what a glow-up on the Battle Network formula looks like… count me in!
I'll keep an eye on it but I'm waiting for the test.
Looks interesting, although the battle animations feel underwhelming. When compared to Mega Man Battle Network or One Step From Eden, the characters moving and attacking feel very flat.
@Eddyson Not gonna lie, I legit thought it was a Laruku game when I saw it on the steam page this morning.

Honestly the animation sprites in battle look kinda meh compared to the beautiful sprite work in Battle Network. I'll keep tabs on it though since Inti Creates usually make solid games.
@TotalHenshin Fully agree. A big piece of Battle Network that shouldn't be overlooked by companies like Inti Creates is that, yes, the dungeons found on the net were indeed corridor-based, but they still had their own character. Different parts of the net had different colors, unique routes, as well as different music. It went a long way to make each area feel distinct.
From the brief trailer, it almost looked like each dungeon would be painfully same-y.
Not to mention that the net dungeons themselves were only one layer to an entirely different overworld, which you could navigate with a different character. Only having a series of cookie-cutter dungeons makes the trailer feel much more isolated, and even One Step to Eden for that matter.
Ciel? Mega Man Battle Network? Inti-Creates? Mega Man Zero? Inception??
