Nintendo Releases New Introductory Video For Mario Strikers: Battle League

I will definitely be there day one, but the amount of characters may make fell buyer's remorse. I hope there are more, either as DLC or unlockable

Ok here are my thoughts:

Graphics seem to have improved a bit, the effects seem a bit flashier.
The move showcased at 1:00 looks really awesome, I had no idea I wanted this mechanic but it makes so much sense.
Peach's special at 1:47 got a smile out of me. I love how Boom Boom just waves at the ball.
DK's fur at 2:18 looks great.
I'm really excited to see how the customization plays out. Looks like it'll drastically change some playstyles.
Online seems intriguing. I don't understand Japanese though so I'll have to wait for the English version.

I am so, SO excited for this game. It looks fantastic and will most likely be our next big party game. It keeps that OG Strikers personality that I love and looks to really improve on the formula. Graphics look great as well. Can't wait for this one.

I wonder where Daisy is?

Hoping for character unlocks by progression. Although I would'nt say no to free updates ala ARMS

Only 10 characters at launch is disappointing, though I suppose the stat-altering clothing customization throws a wrench into things (compared to Mario Tennis/Golf).

Other than that, the game looks great.

There needs to be more characters to select. Hopefully they are unlockables or dlc. Other than that, games looks fantastic, new game mechanics look really fun.

Game needs at least double that roster. I don't mind if it comes in free DLC but hopefully it is not a drip feed. Daisy is probably a lock-in, other characters are harder to predict. My guess is we are likely going to see Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr, Pauline, Baby Mario, Birdo, Koopa Troopa, Miis. Less likely but still possible are King K Rool, Kremling, Funky Kong, Boos/other random Mario enemy, Petey Piranha

I'm just hoping the game has a fun story mode, as well as good single player options for when on the go.

Edit: Also the game could probably use some more female characters. Out of the ten in character selection, only two are female, and none of them are Daisy. Maybe there's more as unlockables/dlc, but right now it seems like a weird choice to have such an uneven split.

BL really needs to have more selectable characters at launch, quite the letdown that it won't happen. Other then that I'm excited to get this game, been waiting so long for a new Strikers title.

Not sure how I feel about Nintendo doubling down on Mario in a visor, but I want to give this game a shot!

New item mechanic?

This game is looking awesome. I can't wait! The gear looks amazing too.

@WeLiveInASociety The last one was back in 2007 so it's been a long time. Hopefully, we get a new Mario Baseball next and maybe even a sequel to Mario Hoops 3 on 3

Probably not a purchase for me. However, I’m so happy for those that were waiting for a new game.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time since the GameCube that a Mario Strikers, Golf, Tennis, Kart and Party were all on the same system. Nintendo representing all the side party series this gen it seems.

I hope Daisy is in this game. I don't like Rosalina. I find her way too similar to Peach, so I hope that she hasn't replaced my favorite loud, tomboy princess.

@JR150 And just to think, Daisy is usually just a color swap from Peach. Where Rosalina has a unique control scheme.

I can see alot of people calling for more characters/captains to choose from. I am sure there will be additions or unlockable but 10 is more than the previous entries at the start and a decent selection:

Super Mario Strikers- 8 Characters and 1 unlockable

Mario Strikers charged- 9 characters and 3 unlockable

I have already pre-ordered and cannot wait to get stuck into this.

yeeee I can't wait to put my hands.. I'm a great footbal fan! but I agree with everyone else.. we need more characters ASAP.. and even if it's my first strikers game, I wanted to see more / new items..

How so? In Mario Sports games, everyone has their own unique stats. Daisy never has the same stats as Peach in these games. I'm talking in terms of personality. Peach and Rosalina are both quiet and reserved whereas Daisy is loud and confident.

Another unfinished bare bones Mario sports game from Nintendo, I'd reccomend waiting a year until purchasing as they will release updates that add content throughout the next 12 months

Will be a nice soccer game, better than fifa soccer on the switch.

@JR150 Well actually, this isn't a Mario Sports title. It's more an arcade style game, like Smash Bros or Mario Kart. And in both those games Daisy = Peach.

After playing Rocket League, with actual physics and skill involved in dribbling, passing, shooting, everything, I simply can't go back to games that have a "pass button" or "shoot button"

Pre-ordered for day 1, but it does seem as if characters will be drip fed out as with Mario Golf and Tennis... I just wish it was on the cart day 1.
Those days are long gone unfortunately...
Still, I'm looking forward to playing it. Not long now till it's release 😀

The drip feed of Nintendo games is REALLY frustrating.
Golf, Tennis, both Splatoon games.
I really wish they'd just release finished products.
Or, stop locking characters/features that are already in the game till later dates.

As a huge fan of the GC one, the Wii iteration was a terribly sluggish letdown. This doesn't look as sluggish but can't tell yet if it has the same quick flow I loved in the GC one.

Wait... did they seriously kick out Daisy? One of the most iconic characters from Mario? If she couldn't make the cut then Pauline, Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr, and my personal most wanted, King K. Rool, will definitely not be in the game, unless they plan for either free or paid DLC.

@steizgr8 Yes, that's even more annoying when content is locked until a later date.
Annoyingly I can see why they do this, it keeps the "buzz" around the game long after launch.
Gives them many opportunities to promote the game with each new bit of content when they decide to release it. Marketing wise it makes sense, helps the title to achieve "evergreen status" where it sells well long after launch.
However, it's annoying those who get the game at launch with a incomplete product...

Only 4 stadiums and 10 characters? Utterly pathetic this game will have basically no content at launch Nintendo Is doing the same B.S that nobody wants drip feed the rest of the game content over 1 to 2 years this is why these sports games die off very quick, this game won't justify full price at launch

Looks great. I personally absolutely LOVE Mario Tennis Aces though and still play it very regularly (bought it day 1) it has so much depth and tactics!! It really is awesome

@AndyC_MK111 rocket league is more of a football game than actual football games are. People only have control over themselves, and everything is done manually.
I don't doubt people get very good at fifa or whatever. But there are set moves and animations and etc etc. That make up the gameplay. Not so with rocket league. It's an entirely different, and more visceral experience. Closer to the real thing.

After not really enjoying Mario Tennis or Golf I'm going to be a bit more cautious about this one. Will wait for reviews on this before buying.

@AndyC_MK111 I humbly disagree and would counter that you are missing the point.
In rocket league the ball doesn't stick to anybody, there is no pushing a button to pass or shoot, you can't just hold a direction hit pass.
You have to actually control the ball.
There are actual skills with just dribbling the ball. 1v1 is exciting and engaging and requires different tactics than team play.
And, if you manage a good passing play with another human, it's a beautiful thing!
All of this is much more like a real sport than any other sports game.
Anybody watching RL can see that it's soccer. But That's not the point.

I'm not seeing much to justify its existence, really. It's looking pretty barebones right now.

@KBuckley27 I think they showed off a 5th, Peach's Castle stadium on the website, separate from the basic Mario themed one

I wasn't concerned at the reveal, but now I'm actually wondering where Daisy is.

I watched the trailer and thought, wow seems like a lot of content except maybe for the small roster.
And then the comment section here thinks there should be two or four times the content.

@AndyC_MK111 As you say, all the content day one would be ideal but although I dislike the drip fed content it has it's benefits.
E.G With Mario Golf I was annoyed at the bare bones release day 1, but I admit the new courses added months after did keep me coming back to play again. So I'm aware even though I didn't like it the process of adding replayability worked.. 🤣

@AnnoyingFrenzy It's still wild to me that they didn't put a Mario Golf on the Wii. The remote was just begging to have a bad control scheme attached to it, like they eventually did for the Switch.

That's where the issue is really, just how bare bones is the game at launch. Providing the player believes there is enough content to justify buying it day one or whether they wait and pick up the game later when more has been added. It varies from person to person.. 🤷‍♂️
I remember getting the original Splatoon on Wii U on day one. It only had a few maps, but with it being a new series and having a great reception it didn't matter. I enjoyed getting the new maps in the month's after launch. The drip fed content worked well in that instance for me. The other side of that is where Mario Tennis on Switch seemed too bare bones at launch that I didn't play it very much until several month's later once the additional content had been added..
As for backlog, same here. Having Gamepass Ultimate on my Series X along with many Switch games purchased but untouched means I always have something else to play while waiting for new content to be added..

Can't wait to see what Daisy's Hyper Striker Shot will look like

@JR150 Rosalina was originally supposed to be related to Peach, so that might explain why the two are relatively similar. Still, I think the two are different enough to both be on the roster.

Rosalina instead of Daisy though? I'll let people decide that for themselves. Personally I think they could go either way in most games, though I will say for this particular game, Daisy seems more fitting for the sport, so the decision does confuse me a little bit.

This is my most anticipated switch title this year.............. sure zelda breath of the wild 2 will be a masterpiece but nothing can replace the fun i have on the original mario strikers for the cube.

They’ve dressed Mario in a cross between a baseball and American football uniform which is obviously intentional but funny all the same.

There is literally no content at launch but online there is no reason to but Strikers Battle League

For me, there will have to be more of a hook than just the cool art style….limited characters and overall thin content is making this look like a pass to me.

@BTB20 Spoiled? How can someone be spoiled for feeling that a game's content doesn't match the price tag for them personally, especially when they can compare it directly with past entries? I love Mario Strikers, but I was also expecting a bit more from it after all these years particularly in it's stadium and mode variety. It's totally fine to feel that way, but let's not attack other people's perfectly valid opinions.

Looks good to me. Hyper Strikes only count for 2 points instead of potentially — what was it — 6 goals (!) in Mario Strikers Charged? 8 players in a match — awesome. Lots of online focus — awesome. I am a little concerned about ranking up players by earning upgrades. So after a few months, if I jump into the game will I be facing off against fully upgraded players who are objectively faster and stronger? That seems unfair. Possibly that’s an even more unfair for couch gameplay.

Still, the game looks fun and has some new ideas.
