Rumour: Nintendo Has Apparently Tested N64 And Game Boy Connectivity For Switch Online

That would be awesome, but I don't think they'll just give away Pokemon RBYGSC away for free on the Apps, so its probably another 3DS scenario where we have to buy them each...

....or they end up just doing this for Mario Golf and Tennis.

Oh good, then the NSO Expansion Pack would actually be worth a damn.

Releasing the Stadium and GB games on Switch with transfer pak connectivity would be awesome. It's a lot of fun connecting everything on the original hardware and I'd love to see that aspect preserved through NSO.

Wonder if Home support would also come with it.

How many N64 games did support the Transfer Pak? Other than Pokemon Stadia 1 & 2, Mario Tennis, and Mario Golf I don't think it got much use.

I really hope the system gets more robust with GBA/ Transfer pack support. Would most likely make me pay for it

I personally do want a gameboy/color/advance NSO app. I refuse to get the N64 app because I absolutely hated the N64. The graphics were horrible and blocky (I also hated the Game Cube for the same reasons). Besides if I want to play any of the gameboy family games I have a Hyperkin retro 5 which plays GB/GBA/GBC, NES, SNES, Famicom, Super FC, Genesis, MegaDrive, SMS (cards and carts).

I wonder if the reason Mario Kart 64 doesn't have Memory Pak support yet is because they couldn't get it to work independently of the Transfer Pak or something, so they decided to hold it off until the latter was ready.

Although it already supports the Expansion Pak and the Rumble Pak, so maybe that doesn't make any sense. How many Paks did Nintendo release for this darn thing???

@Specter_of-the_OLED The majority of games that used the Transfer Pack are JP exclusive. But that aside, I remember Mickey's Speedway having it as a kid too.

This is cool and all, but we all know about a certain giant who needs to return to his rightful place in the spotlight through this service...

If these rumors are true, I'll upgrade and do the same thing I did IRL: Abuse the heck out of glitches in Red/Blue to make actual good Stadium Teams.

@link3710 Interesting, I didn't even know that got the support. I thought only first party titles support it.

@Angelic_Lapras_King They should add it in the "extra" pack that contains N64, some Sega console games and the Animal Crossing and Mario Kart DLC.

But knowing their pricing ways, they'll add a "third extra pack" for only game boy games, and you should pay USD$50 more.

The minigames on Pokémon Stadium 1+2 were god-tier. If we could get online multiplayer for those, I would be in heaven.

If this is yes, really I will upgrape my subscription, really I miss this classic connectivity between Mario Golf and Mario Tennis in their N64 and GBC versions and play with the "guest" characters, unlock unique things and more, also, the connection between Pokémon Stadium's and Main Pokémon GB games.

Project64 supports save Files from Gameboy Games, so you can play with your trained Pokemon.

In Combination with a Device as the Retrode, you can go crazy wild and copy your Savegame to the original Modul, play on the Gameboy, back to the PC, than proceed on your Phone, play Stadium on your Emulator and back to the Gameboy.
Sadly the Retrode doesn't support N64 Savegames, but the Everdrive serves here well.
So you can proceed with your Games in every crazy Constellation.

Just to show off what is possible Today, so Nintendo shouldn't have any Problem implementing it.

But, i will not buy the Games digitally again.
I have them on the 3DS and i am absolutly disliking that Nintendo is so damn arrogant to not support a proper Store Culture as Steam or even Microsoft have.
They are just not reliable with online Purchases.

This would make the expansion pak even more valuable. I am not going to hold my breath, but these rumours of GBA games and this are hopefully not entirely unfounded. I'd love to be able to play GB games and the connectivity with Pokémon Stadium and the classic Pokémon games was one of the best things back then.

Pokémon Stadium is useless without the Transfer Pak, without it and a Pokémon for Game Boy, you won't enjoy not even 10% of the game.

I remember playing Pokemon Yellow in 2x speed on Pokemon Stadium. That was groundbreaking at the time 😅

Honestly, who WOULDN'T want Transfer Pak support on NSO? I never had a chance to try it myself, but I'd be down for it.

On a related note, have Controller Pak support, Nintendo!

We got Mario Golf before this, which is respectable, but if Mario Tennis comes before this, then... that's just sad.

This is one of those rumours that’s so unlikely that it calls the original rumour into question. There’s no way the Switch somehow becomes compatible with an N64 peripheral that was discontinued 20 years ago.
