When Pokémon Unite was originally revealed in June 2020, it didn't go down well with the Pokémon community at the time. The reveal trailer generated 150,000 dislikes in less than 24 hours and even managed to outdo the reveal of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which had over 90k dislikes in less than a day.

Fast forward to April 2022, and it's a completely different situation for the free-to-play MOBA-style Pokémon game. It's safe to say Unite is big, like really big - with the latest announcement from The Pokémon Company revealing combined Nintendo Switch and mobile downloads have now exceeded 70 million worldwide.

Pokémon Unite has gone from strength to strength since the original launch. Most recently, the game added Azumarill as a new playable fighter, following on from the release of Duraludon in March. Here's a new trailer - including a Google translation of the description, noting how 70 million downloads have now been exceeded:

"Team strategy battle game "Pokemon Unite" has exceeded 70 million downloads worldwide! Both the Nintendo Switch version and the smartphone version are now being distributed! This is a new Pokemon battle. Evolve and score goals. The key to the game is unity."
