Update: Skystone Games and Stonebot Studio have confirmed that The Last Friend is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on September 30th, 2021. As you can see from the story below, it was originally supposed to be with us in 2019.

Original Story [Thu 31st May, 2018 10:45 BST]: Stonebot Studio has announced that its upcoming beat 'em up and tower defence mash up The Last Friend is headed to the Nintendo Switch early next year.
The game’s storyline follows the aftermath of a worldwide chemical war that few humans survive. The remaining humans are divided into two groups - Survivors and Mutants - who are essentially the goodies and the baddies. Players will take control of a protagonist who owns a mobile shelter, caring for their canine friends – especially now that dogs have become a food source for the mutants!
The Last Friend must keep hordes of these mutants at bay using an array of traps, turrets, and his very own fists, balancing attack and defence tactics to defend the dog shelter and effectively save the last remaining puppies on the planet.

Of course, no information of exact release dates or pricing has been revealed with the launch still being several months away, but this could well be one to keep an eye on.

Very good Stonebot! Mixing beatemups with tower defence looks like a very clever and quite natural mix.
I adored tower defence but now, not so much. Kinda feel this genre has grown beyond stale
Looks like yet another game that I would expect to see on my phone but will just add more clutter on the eshop to scroll past.
The 2D depth of this game makes me think in the heat of battle sit's going to be difficult to place your turrets int he correct lane. PvZ was a really slow placed TD game and even then sometimes I'd put things in the wrong lane. It's nice that they gave a different look to PvZ rather than simply top down but I really don't think it's going to work in practice, mistakes will be made on a regular basis at the most inopportune times. That's pretty much gong to be the review right there.
Huh interesting, I really don't like 2D Beat'em'ups, but I do like Line Defense games and Tower Defense games in general. Looking forward to seeing a review, and ideally a demo for this. Based on that I could go either way on this one.
Action based Plants vs Zombies.
I feel like Lock's Quest did it better.
I'm not so sure about this one. The beat em up action along the with the sound effects seem weak.
@RusevDay same here. I Loved tower defense games as a kid but now I can't even maintain interest even for the best ones. I downloaded the pixel junk monsters 2 demo and briefly had fun for about the first 5 waves before I started to rapidly lose interest.
Looks like a fairly decent Plants vs Zombies clone.
I was digging the guitar riffs in the second part of the trailer.
A tower defense, beat 'em up, and it has dogs instead of cats?
