Channel 4's upcoming reboot of the cult video game show GamesMaster has gone and got itself a presenter, as today it's been announced that Scottish comedian, writer, filmmaker and poet, Robert Florence, will be taking over as host when it relaunches later this year. Robert will be joined by Frankie Ward and Ty Logan as co-hosts.
Currently comprised of three 60 minute episodes that focus on celebrities doing battle against one another in an effort to reign supreme, the new show will be aired on E4's YouTube channel before being broadcast on E4 proper. We still don't know exactly when we'll get to see this modern take on an iconic show that's been off the air for 23 years now (!) or indeed who will assume the legendary mantle of the actual GamesMaster, but we'll keep you all posted as soon as we have any further information.
For those who aren't yet familiar with Robert's work, he's got a long history within games media having written for Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, GamesTM, Custom PC and more. He's also co-created and presented cult gaming shows of his own in the form of the excellent Consolevania and VideoGaiden. Robert also hosted the hilarious The Independent Charles Show way back in the Xbox 360 days on Inside Xbox.
Having also directed his own horror movie, The House of Him, and with his latest TV show The Scotts currently airing on BBC iPlayer, we reckon Robert's madcap and often surreal comedy style is a perfect fit for GamesMaster and, being another Scot, his taking over the reins from the previous presenter Dominik Diamond just feels right to us. We can't wait to see what this brand new take on GamesMaster has got in store when we finally get a look at it sometime later this year.
We're also going to be sitting down with Robert in the very near future to chat to him about his part in the GamesMaster relaunch, so keep an eye out for that interview popping up on the site sometime soon!
