After 30 years, is there anything Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't done? Actually, he hasn't become a VTuber yet and following on from yesterday's rumour, it seems Sega has now made it official.
Yes, it's true - the blue blur has been transformed into a VTuber model. The Sonic Twitter account in Japan shared a first look and introduction. Of course, the majority of it is in Japanese, but there is an English greeting. It's not known what Sega's plans are beyond this or if the VTuber version of Sonic will make it across to the west.

If you're not familiar with VTubers, they are 3D streamers voiced by real people and are all the rage on the internet right now. The voice of Sonic in the above video is handled by Jun’ichi Kanemaru - the talent who has been voicing the character in Japan since Sega's 1998 Dreamcast release, Sonic Adventure.
VTubers are more commonly anime-style characters, so it'll be interesting to see how this version of Sonic goes. Would you be watching Sonic as a VTuber? Leave a comment down below.

One I need to see the eng actor, two, This actually is not as bad As I thought it would be, I'm going to give him a shot before I give a solid opinion on it.
This is not as horrifying as I thought. Still weird tho.
Can you buy his bath water?
I think it's a strange move.
That was fast.
Wonder if they're going to have him play any non-Sonic/non-Sega games?
There’s a really good Amy Rose simp joke to be made here.
If we could ask him questions about his games that would be nice. I'm not expecting any legit valid answer from the guy but hope he could answer them to the best of his knowledge.
What the hell is a V tuber?
@Zeldafan79 Ooh! I asked the same thing earlier today! I'll tell you what I learned. It's when someone live streaming super-imposes an image over themselves, and the image follows their body movements and they say and do stuff. Ghastly!
NINJA NO APPROVE
@Zeldafan79 I think you should give it a shot, but if you don't want to you don't have to, I thought the same thing when I heard about him, gave them a shot and, Well I love watching them alot.
@Zeldafan79 The future!
How long until he mentions the name of a region or territory that is totally owned by China for real you guys and is forced to retire to appease the CCP and their army of penny trolls?
Guess I'm like hall and oats, I'm outta touch!
Why did he say the first two words in English then switch into Japanese? How very odd.
The Japanese voice is really great, but I just know they are going to ***** this up with the English one.
Let's be honest, this was always going to be Sonic's logical conclusion. Before long he will be paid to read furry fanfic, and that will just be all there is left of Sonic for the rest of his days.
Aha, never heared "VTuber".
But i am also a bit more classical, i call them Moderators.
This is very creepy. So par for the course when it comes to Sonic.
Uggh, I hate when they give Sonic side mouth. Forces was really hard for me to look at because of that. I know lately his and other characters default as having side mouth but its just so jarring to look at in motion. Say what you want about the janky movements of Dreamcast Sonic, but I'll always prefer those mouths over these
We truly live in the worst timeline.
Go home SEGA, you’re drunk.
@javiboy2
Really it wasn’t the pisspoor writing and gameplay that didn’t make it hard to look at for you? Side mouth looks jarring in things like this because of the use of motion capture rather than applying solid animation principles, instead of seeing of seeing a cartoon character doing this classic way a cartoon character would talk you’re seeing what looks like human in a Sonic suit doing it, check out New Frame Plus’s video on Sonic animation he goes into all of this and more.
@Zeldafan79 Damn, reading that hard for you?
@Zeldafan79 Hey, at least you're not...out of time
That still picture looked horrifying, but he looks much more adorable in motion in that short clip.
Removed - unconstructive
@Zeldafan79 Now that. that is an awesome reference my friend
I kind of want to watch Sonic, in character, playing other video games. Like Skyrim or something.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Sonic’s Japanese actor, Jun'ichi Kanemaru, speaks Engrish sometimes with his portrayal of Sonic. English is seen as “cool” in Japan.
I'm waiting for the inevitable Sonic cooking show. I want to know how to make the PERFECT chili dog.
Lol .. what are they doing with sonic...
@PBandSmelly Pretty funny you say that, considering this is Nintendo Life of all.
