Following on from its announcement back in February, Blizzard has now locked in a release date for Diablo II: Resurrected.
Hell will be unleashed once again on 23rd September this year. You can now also wishlist the game over on Nintendo's website. Here's the description from the same page, along with a new trailer (above).
Diablo® II: Resurrected™ is a remastered version of the quintessential action RPG Diablo® II and includes all content from both Diablo® II and its epic expansion, Diablo® II: Lord of Destruction®. Relive the classic gameplay with updated quality of life features, including a new and improved user interface, item tooltip comparisons, and automatic partying in multiplayer games. Pursue the mysterious Dark Wanderer and fight the denizens of hell as you uncover the fate of the Prime Evils Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal for the first-time on Nintendo Switch™.

Time to rip and tear until it's done.
damn wrong game
This Twitter announcement is better than the whole SquareEnix conference 🤣
@JuiceMan_V But I am surprised that there are so few game announcements for Switch. There are almost 90 million systems in the market, as a publisher I would not ignore them.
I skipped school some days back in high school specifically to play Diablo 2. Unless it ends up being a garbage remaster/port, I will own this.
@Max_the_German there was like none in the presentation
@Max_the_German
Just hold out for Nintendo's E3 Direct. I'm willing to bet loads of third party games (especially JRPGs and visual novels) are gonna show up there.
I hope this is physical...
I asked about 1000000 times everywhere if this will have a physical release and either I do not have an answer or I have some generic crap "Currently there are no plans or announcement to make follow our Twitter" ...
It is one of the most influential games in history ... it must have a physical release!!!
@GamerDad66 : If nothing else, I’m sure one of the smaller scale publishers will leap at issuing a physical release.
I love this game and put in a ton of hours playing it.
With all these game announcements and everything, including this remaster, all I can say is… I am overburdened!
The D3 port is fantastic so hopefully its the same for D2 as would rather have D2 on Switch for on the go then PS4.
@Max_the_German Its because they're waiting for Nintendo's turn tomorrow, don't worry i expect the Switch is getting a fair amount of stuff.
I’ve not played a Diablo before, should I start with 3 or wait for 2?
I really enjoyed D3 on Switch. This remaster is looking pretty good too, definitely getting this.
@Woodyshoe I think 2 is still considered the best in the series. 3 was the first big Blizzard misstep, though it probably got fixed along the way (like that awful auction house).
@SmaggTheSmug it was a big misstep at the beginning but after the console releases and Reaper of Souls they fixed the game. The console version got the offline mode (which the PC game still don't have ) and they added much bigger endgame.
Still D3 sold so well because of D2 legacy.
The one thing I like in D3 better than D2 is the lore aspect. Not the actual story of the game but all those lore books, conversations and every Set and Legendary items have a lore flavor text to it.
Curious about how it will run?
Variable 720p 30fps maybe?
@Max_the_German,
Same here, although not sure how many games released on other systems will sell all that well.
More surprised developers are not creating dedicated Switch development teams, and making exclusive content for the console.
Hell yeah. Now I need to play Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 to death until this comes out
Hell yeah!
Looking forward to this.
Let me guess that was PS5, X box series X footage. Now i spent loads of hours on diablo 3 thanks to all the modes etc, I prefer to play it on the latest console if i am going to invest that much time in it. The only question is can i get hold of the latest console?. Cause if not i may buy it on switch.
not sure if the edgyness of the game aged too well
@johnvboy Or taking Switch as the base system for game development, like they did for Yooka-Laylee. 720p30 for Switch docked would be fine, these games would run with 60 fps on PS4 / Xbox One and with 120 fps and raytracing on PS5 / Xbox Series X/S.
@Max_the_German,
This would also be true, and helpful, just wondering how much politics is involved in all this.
Just in time for spooky Halloween time!
Return? I never left. This game was the reason I built my first PC 20 years ago! How time flies. Can’t wait to play it portable!
NINJA APPROVED
Looking forward to this, hopefully it will have voice chat this time around on Switch or I will grab it for another system.
I hate playing multiplayer games in silence, imagine playing with 7 people and not being able to chat as you grind.
I'll definitely check reviews before purchasing.
Day one buy for sure.
Finally, cross-progression!
No word on what the limited online for the switch port? I really hope it isn't super gimped compared to the other versions.
(The trailer showed at E3 said the switch version doesn't have the same online functions as the other consoles)
@BloodNinja maybe we are related? I built a pc for Diablo 2. Also put a ridiculous amount of time into D2. I played a lot of hardcore, but being in Australia, wasn’t uncommon to lag out and lose everything. Character building stuff haha
@timp29 Haha, that’s amazing! Yep, I was garbage at multiplayer, so I focused on single player. Games still a blast even today! What did you think of Diablo 3? Going from 2’s deep build customization to whatever 3 did felt like a huge step backwards for me.
Day one for me, and possibly on both Switch and Xbox thanks to the cross save option which will allow jumping between systems.
I initially read “...Prime Evils Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal...” as “Prime Elvis Diablo” and wasn’t really sure what was going on.
Sounds like this will make way more sense than I’d initially thought.
I liked D2,but D3 was pretty boring at the beginning.I have played D3 on pc,but never on Switch.Is hardcore mode for D3 challenging(I have never played hardcore)?
@BloodNinja yeah d3 wasn’t as great as d2 but I still put many hours in. I actually have avoided d2 and d3 on switch because I can’t afford to get hooked on them again haha
@timp29 Hahaha, ok I can relate to that!
Hardcore mode is ok, you just play a little differently. I managed to get every class past level 60 (D3) and past level 80 (I think in d2 - but that’s going back - I think you could get to 99 but that was crazy grinding - I think I had a level 92 barbarian??? because they were a little more resilient to lag) but you will lose a character here and there often in the earlier levels. But it’s definitely more exciting/nerve wracking
