Last month, the living legend, Masahiro Sakurai, was finally verified on Twitter with a blue badge.
Up until then, a Sakurai parody account - with more than 100,000 followers - had been causing chaos. It would often suggest certain reps were on the way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and was also known for posting offensive content.
The good news is that this account appears to have been defeated and Sakurai fans are now celebrating. Well, kind of? Whatever has happened, the account is no longer active.
Interestingly, this is all timed in with April Fools and Mario's doomsday, so it could still possibly be a cruel joke on the account owner's end, but for now, Sakurai fans on the social media platform are taking it as a win.
While parody accounts might seem like harmless fun, they can often catch people off guard. Just yesterday, for example, the video game website Kotaku "got got" by a parody Halo Twitter account and ended up publishing an article about the new entry in the series being delayed until next year.

Honestly best to keep em down, but they will come back another time. Also best not to give them anymore attention. Although, they make have temporarily deactivated for april fools.
In casd anyone was wondering, this acc would spam under peoples posts, say lotsa transphobic things, and even shared nsfw "memes" under a minors posts

I have been trying to do a lot of self improvement to get negative language and thoughts out of myself over the past year, but I will wilfully break that to say the donny who ran that account was a monumental bellend. It makes me a bit sad that the account wasn't suspended and has the possibility to be reactivated in the next month or so, this honestly could just be a big April Fools set-up to prod at people like me, but bloody hell I hope that guy pisses off for good.
I still think Sakurai is placed on too much of a pedestal. Some people act like he single handedly made not only Smash but all the characters in it that it borrows.
He's talented sure. But he's still only human.

@TheJGG That’s a problem with the internet in general. Disagreement fosters discussion (read, arguments) whereas agreements just fosters... nothing.
If it was a good parody like that Kaz Hirai or Miyamoto account it would still be around.
Plot twist: The parody account was run by the real Sakurai to troll everyone.

Honestly when the account was created, I used to follow them because for a while the joke tweets were actually funny and original until eventually the account just started posting stuff blatantly found from elsewhere online and just turned into a regular "haha, I post offensive or stolen memes" account so I unfollowed years ago.
One of the only good and original game parody accounts was the former CEO of Sony, Kaz parody twitter. Unfortunately the legend retired on their own but THAT was a good example of posting both funny and original content that didn't resort to being an edgy teenager that just reposted memes we'd already seen for the billionth time.
@PBandSmelly at first I was like "oh this is just a harmless running gag" but it sounds like he's been doing more than fake announcements.
So I guess Kotaku has shown, once again, how big brained they are.
Like... how do ppl still get got in the gaming industry on April 1st? This isn't a new trend; it's been being done since PS1 at very latest in my memory (the Akuma "unlock" on Resident Evil 2 is earliest I encountered). By now we should all know to never get excited or let down by gaming news until we hear it again on Apr 2nd.
