Update: Deadline is reporting that the fourth season of Castlevania, comprised of 10 episodes and starting on May 13th, will be the last.
However, it has also heard that Netflix has plans to create a new series set in the same universe with an "entirely new cast of characters".
Deadline also understands that writer and executive producer Warren Ellis is not involved with this spin-off series.
Furthermore, Netflix has confirmed this season is the final one, and that the rumours of a spin-off are indeed true:
Original Story [Fri 16th Apr, 2021 02:00 BST]: Resident Evil isn't the only video game getting some attention on Netflix. Back in 2017, Castlevania's animated series made its debut and since then it's grown in popularity and size. It's now got three seasons with a fourth one on the way.
So, what's happening with the fourth season? The last we heard about it was in March 2020, and now, in a social media post, Netflix has shared a picture of the series' cast of characters, along with the message "we're back"...so, we guess an announcement of sorts is coming soon?
This will also reportedly be the last season creator Warren Ellis is involved with after being accused of abuse by multiple women.

Cool. Netflix keeps bugging me to rejoin and this is the show to do it. But I really hope season 4 is better than the last. The first two were pretty great
Haven't watched season 3 yet, I heard some stuff about it but I'll give it a go
I'm I the only one that thhks that the guy on the far left looks similar to Zasalamel from Soulcalibur and thinks that a CastlevaniaxSoulcalibur crossover would be awesome?
I like Castlevania, vampires and anime but I found this show so boring. Too many people standing around talking for long periods of time.
I wonder how this series is going to move forward without Ellis.
He deserves to leave but it's probably going to be hard to find a new writer whose scripts can be reconciled with his.
I actually love this animated series so this is great news.
This series is great. I'm a big fan. Looking forward to rewatching in prep for season 4.
Season 3 was great. Not as amazing as Season 2, but it kept the quality. It seems it'll be time to get Netflix again.
A good season 1, a great season 2 and a mediocre season 3. Hopefully season 4 gets back on track.
Can't wait! Love this show!
@SeantheDon29 Ha, I never thought about that before, but he does look a lot like him, and yes, that could be a really cool crossover (if done correctly).
@Edu23XWiiU I liked season 3 more than the other two seasons.
I swear to God if they touch a hair on Trevor's head I will not forgive them.
Ellis is a one-tric pony when it comes to writing, but I prefer him over Mark Millar. Still, if we get a fifth season of Castlevania, this fourth one should be the last arc for Trevor’s generation and we get Simon or another descendant. This way, a new writer or team of writers can make any dynamic shifts without people complaining that the show feels different in the final season like House of Cards.
@Moistnado
Yep who knew that Castlevania was a game about constant action instead of constant talking like some RPG? The constant shift between light hearted MCU like conversations to edgy violence and nihilistic brutality is also poorly balanced. This shows like a bad fanfic and I expect it will be remember as such years from now.
Season 3 was the weakest. I hope 4 is better.
Really like this show and funny enough, the most hype thing about this image to me is seeing Alucard with his shield.
Accused of something and actually being proven is quite different. Anyway what does it actually matter anyway? People are people after all. We are not perfect!
@xPH03N1Xx86 It's not as good as season 1 and 2 bar a few choice episodes but it's still highly decent and interesting
I'm kinda only in it for Isaac and Hector at this point. Everything else in S3 was awful. These people need to hire someone who knows how to write a coherent and cohesive story. It jumps all over the place.
Kid Dracula spin-off, let's go!
Stoked, really enjoyed everything so far
No Warren Ellis, no Castlevania.
Excited! Wish it was coming out around Halloween but obviously the sooner the better so I'll take it!
I'm also in the boat who loved Season3. I felt the series got better and better as it went on. I actually didn't care for Season 1 much at first and it didn't hook me. So I waited until 2 and 3 came and watched it all and absolutely loved it. So much action and awesome built in!
May 13th, calendar marked!
Wonder what they'll do for the spin-off. What if it's with Richter or ... Reinhardt Schneider!? Or... Ortega and Cornell!? Oh boy... so much potential.
@Moistnado 2nd season was beyond boring..
So. Slow...
Love this show! Can't wait to see what happens with Isaac, Slyward, and sypha. Love these characters
I wonder who the new series will focus on...
New group of vampires? Vampire hunters? Belmont descendants?
Really tried to get into the show but it couldn't hold me for very long.😑
Would love to see the story go on to a 5th season. All these characters have been hyped up just for the show to end now? I think this has more to do with netflix and them only being interested in viewership of the first season of their shows.
I want to see Soma series!
I mean, it makes sense. Finish off Hector's story, flush the cast and introduce the next Belmont. JoJo has been doing it for decades.
@SmaggTheSmug On that note... it would be nice to have a new JoJo game on Switch, especially after that Stone Ocean announcement.
Season 3 was alright, I missed the man himself, Dracula. My biggest complaint was it was mostly just setting stuff up, hopefully we get some good payoffs in season 4.
I really enjoyed seasons 1 & 2, but never got around to season 3. I heard it was more-or-less trying to be Game of Thrones and that it wasn't as good as the other seasons.
@GameOtaku Warren Ellis admitted and apologised for essentially sexual coercion. It’s there in black and white and he stepped away from Castlevania as a result. Why do you automatically assume that these were just allegations?
@nessisonett
Because usually that’s all there is allegations. So what if he did anyway? The work he’s done on the series is phenomenal. Just because he did something’s outside of his work that’s questionable doesn’t equate to his work being any less good. Much like Ruroni Kenshins creator being charged with inappropriate conduct doesn’t equate to his series being bad.
@GameOtaku Come on, you have to realise that an attitude of ‘usually it’s just allegations’ is utter nonsense when we’ve seen the sheer number of people that have genuinely committed these acts. Plus he literally admitted it. So what if he did? Really? That’s just a pathetic stance to take because if we ignored people’s conduct because they did something good in the world then we’d be having the annual Jimmy Saville Charity Telethon. It’s almost as if... these people leverage ‘good work’ in order to excuse abhorrent behaviour?
Season 4?! Seems like just yesterday I was watching the teaser... time needs to slow the F down
@nessisonett
I’ve seen far too many times where the allegations were false and they still ended up trampling all over a persons reputation. Can you not separate the creators outside life and his works? Another example I can think of is the director of Ascendance of a Bookworm posted some let’s say triggering posts on social media and the series tanked because of that? So what if the person had a hot take on a matter? It still shouldn’t effect the work.
Hahahaha why is it that nothing ever lasts longer than 3 or 4 seasons on Netflix? This is why I could never get invested in anything on Netflix and ultimately canceled my membership 2 years ago. Netflix isn’t willing to go all the way with their content. It’s also why I was deeply disappointed Cobra Kai ended up there. Netflix is where shows go to die and isn’t Cobra Kai suppose to never die? 🤪
@GameOtaku Of course I can separate the art but I won’t support somebody’s ongoing works. Because that will financially support said person. Warren Ellis rightfully stepped down in order to separate the work from his personal life.
@nessisonett
So he is just going to remain perpetually unemployed if everyone has that kinda attitude. His personal life and professional life are two different things. His behavior has been going on for over 20 years. I’m sure word of his........uh exploits (to put it one way) had sure to have made the rounds well before now.
@GameOtaku It’s pretty simple really, if more people refuse to give their money to known predators then these people won’t have the power, financially and professionally, to abuse the same numbers of people. By putting these people on a pedestal, we automatically enable them.
@nessisonett
Or people could be smarter and not resort to sexual favors to get ahead when they could get ahead on their own merits. But no! Reading through most of the stories he was accused of also mentions how they did so for “favors”. I’ve seen time and again where they accuse simply to ruin a persons reputation, sue, walk away rich and the guy (who is certainly guilty in participating) is left jobless and penniless. It’s ridiculous.
I'm okay with it. We'll keep getting Castlevania stories probably moving onto Simon or Richter. And honestly Ellis writing has always been between the just pottymouth and borderline offensive at times... And not in the good why, in the "these are my beliefs now excuse me while I stuff it down your throat" and just gross... like did we need to see demons eating babies in Season one? Still enjoyed the show though, but would not mind a new writing team.
@GameOtaku Are you actually f***ing kidding me? Victim blaming? Do you not see how it’s a massive abuse of power for somebody to offer those sorts of favours in the first place? That’s literally what Harvey Weinstein did and you’re blaming the women. Shame on you.
next one might be based on simon belmont hope we get to see draculas beast form.
@nessisonett
It’s not victim blaming. They didn’t have to take him up on his offer either. It’s not as though he forced himself on someone. They didn’t have to go along with it but they wanted something and doing some dirty business with him was what some considered the quick route. I was taught you had a free will and could refuse such offers.

Sending nudes for help on a college thesis? Really?! She had lots of other credible sources other than him! So she started a relationship to get a good grade. I believe both sides were in the muck as the other was in the marsh! Of course I wa brought up quite differently. I was raised to try to have good moral standards and not slink to such lows to get ahead.
@GameOtaku @nessisonett “How simple it would be if we were to draw a line between the good and bad half of everyone in their hearts and cut them with a sword.” A quote I recall from Jack Kornfield on the matter.
I am a fan of Marilyn Manson and find someone like him to be exactly what he advertised himself to be. With Jimmy Savile and Bill Cosby, they were the deceitful types and it makes justifying them for what they gave to children a lot harder.
With Ellis, having worked in entertainment myself, and one friend whose law firm represented him a decade ago, I can say this with some perspective : 1) he’s a diva, 2) he is an alcoholic and insufferable to be around when drunk, 3) he has an attitude of the typical victim who has low self-esteem and perpetuates a cycle of victimhood around him without realizing people who idolize him want his approval even if it means fulfilling his sexual urges, 4) he fulfills the typical celebrity who thinks he has power as a gatekeeper and makes empty promises to aspiring writers, though to be fair, there are people who do mean to help launch more careers, they just suck at following through and more often than not think that just a simple introduction to a friend is all that’s needed.
There’s more power dynamics and unrealistic expectations that make the exchange unequal and abusive because of what they give and what Ellis doesn’t give in return, as the stories consistently show.
I dont like Ellis one bit. Glad he won't be taunting this series name anymore
@Moistnado yeah and thos wouldn't be a problem if the dialogue was meaningful. This show is hot garbage imo
@Severian dude Ellis is a scumbag. Glad you're speaking out cuz idk why ppl think he's a good man. Plus the writing for this show is laughable. Not to mention he never played the games and said he has no interest in a bunch of pixels
@PickledKong64 my earlier quote was to say yeah, even if someone does abhorrent things, it’s hard to totally divide them into purely evil or purely good, but with facts surrounding a case, especially with Jimmy Savile, it shows insincerity there compared to Manson who is a rocker and openly talking about sex, drugs, and controversy. Ellis is a jerk because he wasn’t a smiler, but a guy who believes that he himself is the victim and really believes that these fans throwing themselves at him are a reward for the hardships he had when he was struggling. In other words: cognitive dissonance on his end rather than being a two-faced smiler like Savile or Cosby.
Castlevania probably might benefit from different writers each generation of Belmont.
@HarvestGoddess Season 3 had some great stuff, the final battle was amazing. And that glimpse of Dracula in hell was just chilling.
@GameOtaku The problem is that these sorts of people in positions of power make it seem as if it’s your only option. There’s a reason so many female actresses’ careers went under the minute they started to speak out. Let’s say a teacher says to their pupil that they’ll give them an A if they sleep with them. And that they’ll fail them if they tell anybody and tell their friends on the exam board to fail every single class you have. What would you do in that scenario? Bear in mind that you’d be school age and have been working towards exams for years at that point. Do you see how easy it is to completely manipulate people and also how easy it is to cave in?
@nessisonett
Thing is it’s not your only option. Some red flags had to have been raised long before then. You don’t have to give in. Tell someone. The truth will come out.
@GameOtaku So it’s the victims’ fault for not speaking out sooner? Man, you’ve gone through about 5 different variations of the exact attitudes why people rarely come forward. You can’t say that people should tell someone and then also say that ‘usually they’re just allegations’, ‘they accuse simply to ruin the man’s reputation’ or that they’re doing it for financial gain. You’ve gone through every single scenario except that they’re telling the truth and were too scared that people wouldn’t believe them to come forward earlier. Which is exactly what happened with Warren Ellis and he admitted it. You even automatically assumed that the allegations were baseless before I pointed out that he had admitted it. Surely you see that an attitude like that creates an environment where people are too afraid to come forward?
@nessisonett
Because if there is abuse there is a pattern! Our justice system is built on the foundation you are innocent until proven guilty! Until it’s proven an accusation is just that , an accusation. Accusations are still serious things and need to be taken seriously. If a student has subpar grades and suddenly after a few private sessions with a professor suddenly they are making better marks for the same work?! Yeah I’d call that suspicious. More often than not it’s also not a secret either. If everyone jumps off a cliff should you too? What happened to taking responsibility for actions?
If something happens you need to step forward. The longer something goes on the harder it’s going to be to prove. It’s hard to prove it was a one sided relationship when it’s been going on for a while and nothing was said? What happened to common human standards? That sex is reserved for committed relationships not just something to flaunt so freely without consequences?!
@GameOtaku Oh dear lord, you’ve even brought out the shaming. What next, are you going to ask what the women were wearing when they were in a room with Ellis? Were they wearing too much makeup? Warren Ellis is an abuser. Proven and admitted to. You’ve gone through hoops trying to pin the blame on the women involved like a genuine scumbag. I sincerely hope there are no women in your life as you clearly have deep rooted misogynistic beliefs shown in your desperate attempts to deflect blame from an abuser.
Let’s end that discussion there, before I need to start deleting comments.
Makes no sense, just use the new cast and continue the story. Just like The Walking Dead numerous series. Oh wait... scratch that.
Season 1 was cool, season 2 great!
Season 3 enjoyable, but less than the other 2.
Looking forward to the last season!
