Late last year, Image & Form reminded fans it was working on more games in the SteamWorld series. At the time, it also said it was open to sequels and even revisiting earlier entries in the series. In a bit of an update, it's now asked what it should do next.
More precisely, it wants to know what SteamWorld game "desperately" deserves a sequel? There are quite a lot of games to pick from. Past entries include SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Dig 2, SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition, SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech and SteamWorld: Tower Defense.
If you've not tried out any of the SteamWorld games yet, what are you waiting for? We've enjoyed them all, and a lot of the time they're on sale on the Switch eShop. What SteamWorld sequel would you like to see next from Image & Form? Leave a comment down below.

How about a break from Steamworld and work on something fresh? There is such a thing as too much of a good thing...
Yeah, I'd like to see them do something else, honestly. But I guess a new Tower Defense would be nice, if they HAD to revisit Steamworld.
@Sourcecode @Sabrewing They are doing a new game (The Gunk) exclusively for Xbox and PC.
heist point blank needs a sequal but i wouldn't mind a new steamworld game preferably a management type of game where you put the world back together.
Dig 3 I feel is an inevitability that they are in no rush to push out. I want more Heist, though. I'd love to see more of that crew.
I liked Quest, I really did. But I don't feel nearly as attached to those characters or world.
I would say heist
Steamworld Dating. I wanna grind some gears and pump some pistons.
Probably none of them really. Dig was my favourite, but I think they pretty much did everything they could in Dig 2.
Heist was great, but a sequel would probably struggle to do anything new.
Just make something new. Maybe a pure platformer?
I'm still hoping for Heist 2, or a crossover Dig/Heist.
A sequel to both Heist and Quest would be welcome: the rpg mechanics were a welcome change and I would personally like to see how much the devs could improve theme.
I'd vote Heist. I spent the most time with that game and it doesn't already have a direct sequel.
Granted Dig 2 already kind of led into Heist, but I wouldn't mind a game that more thoroughly bridges Dig 2 and Heist.
Or a Dig 3 where you control both Rusty and Dorothy.
I love them all but heist has the most potential imo, you can do a lot more with a turn based tactical shooter than a 2d mining game or a card based rpg, honestly I feel I've seen everything cool that can be done with those restrictions in dig 1/2 and quest. there is so much variety in weapons, player skills/abilities, combat arenas. it also feels right to me that heist would be next since its the latest one chronologically in canon.
Steamworld FPS
Steamworld Heist is one of my favorite games of the last decade, so this is a no brainer for me. More Heist!!!
Most definitely Dig 3
I feel like SteamWorld Dig 3 is an inevitability. I found the gameplay loop in both 1 and 2 addicting. I also wouldn't mind seeing a Heist sequel. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed that game.
Haven't played Quest yet, so I can't comment on that one.
I enjoyed the Dig games. Quest got boring and it was the same music over and over.
Heist 2 please
No one saying Quest? Develop on that story and gameplay. It's brilliant!
Quest. I actually lost interest with Heist before finishing it. I’ve beaten Quest twice. Love the mechanics.
Steamworld Heist sequel would be my choice.
They all need sequels, but I’d want Dig 3 the most! If something new, hmmm.... a city/tower builder sim inside the Steamworld universe would be awesome, or an action rpg either in metroidvania style or 3rd person 3D....
Heist 2 would be very welcome thank you!
I want dig 3 and Heist 2.
You can keep the hand of Gilmatchen or whatever it was called.
I'd love a Quest sequel, but much less linear with a full overworld to explore with dozens of NPC's and towns etc.
Personally though I'd prefer a new entry in the franchise. Either a straight up platformer or I'd love some sort of sports game with hundreds of up-gradable and weapons parts to tweak your team, meaning everyone's team is as potentially unique as a Pokemon team of 6. Could even turn that into Heist 2, online matchplay would be amazing seeing everyone's customized characters in action
Tough. Probably a new Dig although either Heist or Hands would be welcome too. Im not a fan of turn based or deck builders.... loathe each genre.. but I adored Heist and Hands. Cracking games.
Dig 3 would probably be my game of the year as long as it doesn’t come out same year as BOTW2!
I’d definitely enjoy a Heist 2 too.
Quest I probably wouldn’t play a sequel of - found that game quite boring and disappointing
I didn't like Dig at all but I liked Dig 2 a lot, so if Dig 3 improves on 2 I'm in.
Heist is also a great game but I might've overgrinded it a bit in my search for weapons and hats. Would insta-buy anyway. The plot hook was there.
If they do Quest 2 I hope It's a bit longer than the first one. It was a good game but the pacing felt way too rushed for me. Like I just met the twins and suddenly I should care about them? Give me time to get to know everyone.
Never played any of them but Quest has been set on my wishlist for a long time. Looks like a great game, I'm just not 100% sold on the art and animation style.
SteamWorld Heist is easily in my top-5 favorite games for Switch. It's also somewhere around the 5th most hours I've logged in a single Switch game, which is pretty impressive considering it's not that long of a game, especially compared to a lot of the other games I own.
I would love another Dig.Heist was also very good.Haven't tried Quest yet.
Happy to see that much of the requests on Twitter are for HEIST. I am not a fan of dig, and quest was ok but I absolutely loved heist
HEIST! Gimme more Heist!
@edgedino I would "dig" that! They could even put it on mobile as well, if they'd like. The Kairo Soft games are one of few mobile games I really enjoyed in the past.
How about Code Name STEAMworld? Turn based 3D tactical heists with 3D bullet ricochet, and lots of randomised weapons to loot like Borderlands.
Or World of Steamcraft. Let your imagination run wild.
Red Steam, basically Red Steel 2 but in Steamworld.
All the above sound like something I'd actually really want to see... Actually... Really.
@Sourcecode
They already did with their new game for Xbox.
Also. Steamworld games are absolute gems. I wouldn't mind if they pumped sequels for just three existing games for all eternity. Each one of them: Dig, Heist and Quest are fun and intuitive and brilliant in their own way and the gameverse behind them is absolutely adorable.
There is no such thing as too much of a good thing. It just means you personally have had enough.
I have played Dig, Dig 2, Heist and Quest. I really liked them all, but my favorite is Dig.
That said, I appreciate that they tried Quest, something different. So, I would be open for something different. Maybe a simple puzzle type game?
All I want is Dig 3, with the option to play it in co-op as Rusty and Dorothy. There's not many more improvements it could make, but that would certainly be a huge addition. My wife and I both love the Dig games, and playing the next one together would be a blast.
Heist ended on a sequel hook, so obviously. Dig already has two entries (with a rather definite ending for 2) and I haven't finished Quest yet (I like it, but it's a but more chore-y than Heist).
I like Dig but I love Heist. I would pre-order a new Heist game as soon as it became available. I have played Heist on the 3ds, Wii U, and Switch and I love playing it again as much as when I first played it. One of my favorite games of the last decade.
@Timppis because it was too much of a good thing.... I’ve been in this world 40 years and yes, that actually exists.
Heist 2 with another outstanding soundtrack from Steam Powered Giraffe please.
They could put Tower Defense on.Switch.
Please make a sequel to Steam World Heist. I am still playing that game on my 3DS these many years later, and would like more of that action.
Build on quest.
Quest 2 could easily bring characters from the other games for a big multiverse rpg. Certainly wouldn't complain about that.
Oh boy do I have feelings here!!
Dig 3 I would play and love over and over again. The other two are literally perfect video games
Heist 2 would be excellent as well! I would play it over and over! The mechanics and story are both fascinating
Quest was fine. I am not passionate about the story, or the RPG mechanics they went with. However I am still happy for the idea of a steam world RPG. Even if they kept the same mechanic s I would like to see the universe expanded in the Heist/Dig timeline. That the story was a weird side step into the medival past was the biggest let down.
I just recently played Tower Defense. It's pretty good, but also the hardest game I've ever played and should burn for it. No more of that one please!
s
Heist for me plz. Enjoyed that one.
I would love Dig 3, but it'd be cool to get an entirely new SteamWorld game as well
I'd like to see them tackle Tower Defense again. I bought SteamWorld TD earlier this year when I went on a DSiWare-buying craze and it was just kind of alright. I think they could outdo themselves here.
@Sourcecode
Awesome age. Same here.
I've yet to encounter such thing in my own life.
Loved the gameplay mechanic in heist, would love to see it fleshed out further, perhaps non-linear or hub and mission based
Steamworld Fishing. Because everyone needs to make a fishing game at some point.
I liked both Digs, but that chapter is kinda closed.
I loved Heist and going further with that would be awesome. That got me into X-com alikes.
I do have but only sampled Quest. Liked what I saw.
Heist, 100% Heist. It was the only game that truly innovated gameplay.
The 2D Valkyria Chronicles-esque game was perfect! One of the few games I double dipped on and 100% completed twice.
We need more Heist!
HEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSTTT!!
