Original Article (Tue 2nd Mar, 2021 15:30 GMT): QubicGames, the indie publisher that gave away ten Nintendo Switch games for free back in 2019, is back once again with another mighty offer for gaming fans.

The catch is that you must already own one of the following QubicGames titles on your account to see these mega discounts appear on the eShop, but here's a cheeky heads up: Coloring Book is free to download, so grab that if you haven't already and unlock all the discounts without paying a penny!
How it Works:

Yay, games no one cares about lowered to a laughable price!
From the headline I assumed it would be just garbage games. But then I saw the Bit Trip games are included. Definitely double dipping on those, specially Bit.Trip Runner.
EDIT: Also, this is a good way to spend some gold points.
Are the Bit.Trip ones any good? I feel like I had one that was a constant runner for the Wii maybe.
Dex is the one I'm somewhat interested in that I've been holding off due to their frequent discounts and giveaway as I figured it'd only be a matter of time before I could get it for next to nothing. Might bite for that price.
Mana Spark, Akane, Koloro, One Strike are great buys for $0.17. I was lucky to get them for free in past Qubic Games events.
Bit Trip Core is good as far as Bit Trip games go. It was the only one I found satisfying on the Wii, the rest kind of suck.
One Strike is really good. Lots of fun.
The rest I've either played elsewhere and they suck or they look like they suck so I haven't tried them.
Don't let the low price put you off thinking the games are bad. Actually there are some very good games here! I have some of them and I'll grab some more. Great sale!
How is it that Qubic Games even has the rights to publish the Bit.Trip games? I'm kind of confused by this fact...
@AbejaGrande
You've gotta be kidding me. Runner was the best!
Still not worth it.
@AG_Awesome Runner and Beat IMO are definitely worth a try, specially at this price. The rest I didn't play as much, but if you like Beat, you may like the others as well. The music is pretty good in all of them.
@redpanda0310 Actually, some of these games are quite good and are easily worth their low normal price, to say nothing of extreme discounts. At 17 cents you can afford to take a chance at finding them.
@Clyde_Radcliffe perhaps read the article first before you judge Nintendolife. And accuse developers of lying.
From the article you linked:
“Although Death Squared is no longer on sale, a quick look at the Switch eShop reveals there are still a number of games available for less than $1.99 (99 cents, to be precise) ... Perhaps the developers of these titles locked in sales well before these new rules came into play, like SMG.”
Robonauts and one strike are not only worth 17 cents, they would have been worth the entire 1.70 if they were in that list.
@BenAV I'm honestly surprised it's being offered for that price. I have several hours in it and I've thoroughly enjoyed it! Just a heads up if you get it: the beginning of the game can be a little difficult to figure out where you can go and what you can do, not to mention it's easy to get killed early in the game. Fortunately it's generous with allowing you to save the game when you want to
From the ultra cheap group, I can recommend Rekt and Not Not.
I might grab Dex at that price.
Akane is fantastic and One Strike is a great 2 player game! Dex got an 8 on here!
Don't write these games off Qubic has a few diamonds in the rough. Nothing amazing but good fun especially at these prices. Nice to see games under $1.99. Looks like a new loophole for small developers can try to use to their advantage.
@redpanda0310 Mana Spark is definitely worth a co-op playthough, the rest .... eh.
Bit Trip is a blast to play once
@Clyde_Radcliffe games can be priced as low as they go, but below a certain threshold they won’t count toward “best seller” lists, as far as I recall.
@Clyde_Radcliffe you don’t know when they decided on this sale. Could’ve been two or three years ago even, thus before the rules were made.
Take DEX, it's full scale game with kind a neat old-school feeling. For that price very high value.
@FiveDigitLP
Its my fave bit trip runner. (vs runner 2/3)
The soundtrack was just so much better to my ears.
Blazing beaks
Dex
Hyper paraite
Warlock 2
Are all pretty good even at a higher price.
Id pick up a bit trip game or two had Not already brought the collection multiple times (and played them to death)
@AG_Awesome I tried bit trip runner on iPhone ages ago, but it was only interesting for about five minutes. Can’t approve that lol
I downloaded the free coloring book app to get the discounts. Some of them showed up but others did not. Does anyone know why that might be?
I'd check out some of the games from these crazy sales... But without folders, I am not going to load up on <$5 games that I'll have to sift through
@AG_Awesome Bit Trip Runner is easily the best of the bunch. I would wager that is the best thing in this Quibic sale. Just remember that it's a 2007 game... But I still think it's the best of the Runner series. Well worth a couple of bucks
Gone for Dex. Just read the review again and it seems decent at that price. I probably won't play it for ages but it'll be there for a rainy day.
Bit Trip Runner and Beat are great!! I'm gonna get that Mini Trains game because I love trains!
Hyperparasite is so good, grab it now
Got myself Dex at £1.50, with enough gold points to bring it down to £0.21. Good thing I check Nintendo Life every morning (afternoon in this case, don't judge me!), been interested to try this game for ages and didn't realise it was on Switch!
Got quite a few of these (with particular amounts of time poured into titles like Akane, Mana Spark, Welcome to Primrose Lake, Jumping Joe and Death's Hangover so far - and looking forward to more dedicated playthroughs of others like Rimelands and Space Pioneer). I'll certainly look into adding some more (or maybe all) on this list that I haven't.
QubicGames is pretty memetic for these events by now, although there are publishers like QUByte Interactive that go even further in their discount pricing. And they have their own prominent titles as well, most notably VASARA Collection and 99Vidas (although I just learned of the latter myself - it's inexplicably unavailable on Russian eShop despite sitting on the same region's PS Store without a sneeze🤔).
But of course, everyone feigning connoisseurship in their routine "shovelware" comments need not heed any of this info.
@pixelpatch Good to know!
@JimmySpades Ok
It's funny how I was excited to get a lot of these games when they could offer them for free but now that they just super cheep it is to much of a bother in my eyes to pick up the ones I don't have. I've only briefly played a handful of the ones I downloaded and the ones I played weren't bad at all. If I didn't already have a massive backlog and was looking for something new to play I would probably look into this sale more, but not now.
The ONLY Qbik game I have played (and the only qbik game I will play) is robonaut. It’s a pretty cool-ish game with a dope soundtrack.
Akane is worth more than what they’re asking for. It’s super addictive. Don’t sleep on it.
REKT is a genuinely fun game. I grabbed it when they gave it away as part of the Christmas giveaway, and my kids and I spent dozens of hours playing it over our Christmas break, unlocking all the cars (some of them are quite clever and really well hidden) and seeing how high we could push our scores. We would put on some music or audiobooks to listen to while we were playing, and I eventually got to thinking of the game almost like a fidget toy because of the way I was constantly flicking a control stick one way or the other. It's great for just zoning out to. $0.17 is a steal for this game.
One Strike is a lot of fun too - it's almost like a video game version of rock paper scissors, where you're just trying to get lucky and outsmart your opponent to land a single hit and win the match. I'm not sure if it would be any fun at all as a single player game, but when you've got someone to play with it can get quite heated when one player gets on a lucky streak and the other one starts trying everything they can to outsmart them and break the streak.
In it for bit trip.
Picked up Mana Spark, Akane, and One Strike!
REKT is a lot of fun. Do it.
Just picked up Dex. Couldn't resist at that price.
@redpanda0310 Wrong. There is a few good games there.
Bit Trip games, Brawl, Dex, Coffee Crisis, REKT and more.
Mana Spark and Space Pioneer are pretty good!
REKT and #racedierun are pretty good. Though Rekt is way better. Very similar to Rush 2049 stunt mode.
Guess it's about time to get Dex then, even if Dreadlocks never actually refunded me the (maybe?) scrapped Wii U version.
EDIT: Sale doesn't seem to be in effect just yet here in Europe. Unless, the sale is only in the actual €-countries.
I'll definitely be getting Bit.Trip Runner! I might also go for Akane.
Weren't there new rules in place?
I thought the minimum was 2 bucks
Akane is pretty fun as is Mana Sparks. Yeah though most of their output is pretty trash, i usually bite at these prices but then regret it months later when i bother to actually play the game haha
I've had fun playing Blazing Beaks; I think it's worth the $1.70/1.70€. There is a risk/reward system in place with artifacts, which are randomized, so each run is different. It is satisfying to see enemies accidentally kill each other.
I got several of these for free during the Christmas promotion a year or so ago. I also got Akane for free by buying Dex during a previous sale (that was not nearly as good as this sale). I liked Mana Spark (enough to get the DLC when it was on sale), Dex, Akane, and Space Pioneer.
I will probably get a few of the Bit.Trip games (Runner is a must at that price). As a gamer on a budget, I rely on sales to support my gaming habit. Qubic Games has had some really good sales in the last couple of years, but this is the best so far.
I purchased all the discounted games in the past sales. I never played any of them more than 30 seconds. Hmmm.......
I think that I paid 29 cents for Space Pioneer about a year ago, and have to say that I got my money's worth. I thought that it was actually pretty fun for a while. Unfortunately, it had to many weapons, gadgets, etc. that leveled up too slowly. But definitely recommended to anyone who thinks that they might like it.
Also, the Puzzle Book games are decent for what they are IMO.
Bit.trip.here.i.come.
@FiveDigitLP I did not like it. But I do not begrudge those that did/do.
I liked Jumping Joe. Simple but addictive.
@redpanda0310 I don't think that's fair to say. You may not care about them, but for a lot of people this is an opportunity to try some good, cheap indie games. Who knows, someone may discover something they really love
Wait, wasn't Nintendo going to crack down on this super cheap discounts?
I have a few of these anyway but definitely getting Dex and maybe Mana Spark.
Enjoyed Dex and Akane. Worth it at these silly prices.
@redpanda0310 You would be surprised at how good some of these can be. Remember Qubic is just the publisher, the games are made by different people.
@AG_Awesome One thing you have to understand about the Bit.Trip series is that these games are HARD! These were initially released on the WiiWare service, but these versions are based on the Complete Edition physical release. This version includes the checkpoint feature, making it more manageable to play, and extra 20 Stage Challenge mode. If you like rhythm games, you might like these. Beating the games is hard enough but after you beat them they are essential score chasers. And, yes, you can achieve a perfect score on them, but good luck with that. Bit.Runner seems to be the prevailing favorite among most people, Pro-Tip: Bit.Trip Beat and Bit.Trip.Flux are a easier to play in TV mode when using the Joy-Con controller dock.
@TheMadManSFX Yeah ok sorry
@thinkhector Got it
Dex is an absolute steal at 1.70!
Don't dismiss Qubic games they have a good amount of arcade gems in this deal. Sure, ever title wont be for you but my 3 year old loves the coloring book LOL
Space pioneers and Rimelands Hammer of thor for 17 cents is superb.
@pixel_jones I picked up the Stencil Art game. Normally I would never even glance at a title like that, but the sale made me bite. I hate to admit it, but the game is surprisingly great. It's relaxing, non-frustrating, non-competitive, and from some weird reason, you really get into it. I also recommend the Puzzle Book. It's sales like these that remind me that there are many different experiences to be had in games.
@Eddyson they must have been wrong, I remember reading the same. Well, it's not a bad thing to have been wrong, definitely nt in this case.
@redpanda0310 Still way more worthy micro-transactions (in a literal sense) then most "real" micro-transactions. Here you get a small-ish full game, elsewhere I've seen character skins in first-person games (where character skins mean just about nothing) (premium priced or free to play) go more expensive than most of these games combined, and I can tell you there's a couple of really enjoyable games on this list, at least for me that's the case. Many of these are good fun "palate cleansers", to play between bigger games and start fresh. And you may be surprised how addictive some of them are... And that it's not even the lowest price ever for a few (€0,00)
If Nintendo weren't so anti-consumer, it would sell some of its games for 17 cents once in a while.
Lol: I won't get their games at 17 cent when they are normally 0 cent during sales...
Update: Okay, I downloaded Timothy. I know, that one is a bit more expensive. But its a game I kept an eye on for some time now.
Bit Trip games aside, are many of these games actually worth playing? There must be a reason that they're constantly on sale for peanuts.
Got REKT. Fun game.
Mana Spark became unplayable for me once there were more than 3 enemies on the screen. It's another lazy port of a decent game.
Blazing Beaks and hyperparasite are great.
Of the 17 cents games, these are very much worthwhile:
Mana Spark
REKT! High Octane Stunts
Space Pioneer
Akane
One Strike
Jumping Joe & Friends
Gravity Rider Zero
Utopia 9
Escape Doodland
Robonauts
Already done with this sale and have all that I want there. Some good games tbf.
@Shambo Good point
Bit Trip Flux is great
