Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has now received a confirmed Switch release date, as Capcom has today announced that the game will launch for the system on 9th July.
The news comes from today's Monster Hunter Digital Event, which is still being streamed live on YouTube and Twitch at the time of writing. The event debuted a brand new trailer for the game which you can relive in the video below.
Alongside the release date news, it was also confirmed that three of the game's characters – Ena, Razewing Ratha, and Tsukino – will be receiving amiibo figures. These will be released alongside the game and will offer in-game bonuses.
And that's not all, as a Deluxe Edition was also revealed. The deluxe edition will include Razewing layered armour sets and a Nergigante-inspired hairstyle for players, the Kuan Coat outfit for your Wyverian companion Ena, two new outfits for Navirou, and two sticker sets depicting the various companions players will encounter through their journey.
The showcase also confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise will soon be receiving a second free demo, with details of future free updates also being shared.

watch it: capcom will wait just a few weeks till release and then announce it will be coming to phone.
on a more serious note: looking forward to this game.
VERY cool. This game is just flat out gorgeous. Really looking forward to seeing more of this.
I really hope Skyward Sword HD doesn't overshadow this.
Day one for me . I will not have the time or patience to invest in Monster Hunter Rise, but a nice rpg such as this one always fits in.
Whoa. Way sooner than I thought. Can't wait, but I also realized that this game, disgaea 6 and skyward sword are all launching within a three week period....
@BrintaPap it might come to phone. But they said there is a PC release of Stories 2 as well. So this one will only be a NS console exclusive
Very interested in the game, and I'm sure I'll get the amiibo because that's apparently something I do, but I expect more merch from a deluxe editor than a handful of stickers. An artbook and copy of the soundtrack are the bare minimum.
Please tell me I can pet and ride my precious boy Dodogama. That's what I really want
Looking REALLY good! Wish we could see some gameplay already, but I bet I will love it.
Anyone gonna buy this on PC?
I prefer switch for both games tbh.
Will wait for some gameplay before buying but so far it looks good
Surely I'm getting this, but... Navirou was the only thing I desliked in the first one, and it's disheartening to hear it will make a comeback
I want to see gameplay, but I'm sure my kids will be into this.
It's a shame Capcom cares more about amiibo than Nintendo at this point. Either way, unless there's a demo and I really like it I probably won't be getting this since I couldn't get into the demo of the first ame.
I want to know if these amiibo will be properly available here in Europe for once, God knows all the other ones weren't/aren't. I imported the Japanese only ones and will have to Ebay the Rise amiibo as well because screw proper distribution, right? I can't order the Rise ones off the Nintendo store because here they only accept credit card and I refuse to get a credit card. Absolutely bonkers tbh.
Noooooo I had to fight to get the last 3 monster hunter amiibo. Sigh.
Objectively though this is great momentum for switch.
I want to like this game, but I really hated the turn-based gameplay it had on the 3DS. I don’t understand the appeal of this type of gameplay at all.
@SuperWeird The appeal (for me) of turn-based combat is that I can sorta relax, maybe halfway pay attention and/or allow myself to be distracted, yet also I can choose wisely vs franticly. I'm not saying its the best or anything - just one type of many gameplay experiences I'm able to enjoy.
@IronMan30 Only your kids? Wow. I´m 33 and I´m TOTALLY going to be into this XD. I´m sure I´m going to enjoy this even more than Rise.
kinda boring amiibos
@the_beaver tbh, I'll probably give this a try and I'm also 33. Lol
Is this special edition and amiibo set getting released in the West or is this going to be another of those "only in Japan" type things that Nintendo games are so well known for?
Glad we have a release date! Sooner than I thought too. Not sure if this is a day one purchase; it'll depend on if I want this or Skyward Sword HD more.
I have mixed feelings about Navirou's return. He's cute and has an interesting (albeit slightly predictable) backstory in the first game, but after awhile he overstayed his welcome and became kinda annoying. As long as they tone down the annoying companion qualities, I'm fine with his inclusion.
God this game looks pretty...how is it that Capcom, a smaller company than Nintendo, manages to put out so much more NEW stuff each year? Kind of makes you think, doesn't it? Also I hope these amiibo are NOT exclusive to Gamestop.
That rathalos amiibo it’s a must have
@Dang69 It might seem like that sometimes, but:
2020: Nintendo - 9, Capcom - 6
2019: Nintendo - 20, Capcom - 5
2018: Nintendo - 30, Capcom - 7
2017: Nintendo - 34, Capcom - 6
2016: Nintendo - 32, Capcom - 9
So much hype! Really looking forward to this!
@Ralizah That would be the most depressing thing ever if the sales failure that was Skyward Sword ends up eclipsing a brilliant MH RPG as a late no-effort port at full price because they're advertising it as "just like BotW, except, you know, not at all..."
And I say that as one of the few Skyward Sword huge fans....
@SuperWeird You're in good company, neither does Miyamaoto.
I absolutely love turn based gameplay, personally, but the fact that it's descending into niche territory outside Pokemon rapidly indicates most people don't. Ultimately it's a strategy/puzzle game. You have to know the stats, know the board, and select the combinations that give the desired results. I think that's the key, every battle is a puzzle or a board game type system where you have to step back and think about every possible move and all the possible consequences 6 turns down the line, like chess except with a lot more variables. But with flashy monsters and more unpredictability. It's a thinking game. Except FF with "ATB" type systems that put you on a timer and make you decide fast or suffer.
It's just a little ironic a spinoff considering mainline MH is the epitome of hardcore fast, precise, high adrenaline action and brutal difficulty....
Ah finally a game with my name in it:).(my real name is Alwin)
I hope these amiibo pre-orders aren't also tied to Gamestop in the US, but they likely will be.
Haven't played the first game yet. The trailer looks good but would like to see the game in action.
Leave the games. Take the amiibo.
More turn based JRPGs please! And sure, more Amiibos, why not. I like the anime aesthetics for this game and hopefully it brings in more casual/younger players to the MH series.
I never got into the main series but after playing the first Stories on 3DS and absolutely loving it, I’m so excited for this! It releases the week after my birthday too
Looking forward to this more than Rise tbf
@Ralizah I doubt Skyward Sword will honestly, since Monster Hunter itself is a bigger franchise now.. and Skyward Sword HD is literally just a Wii port but 60 dollars, without any changes at all. Plus Stories sold poorly originally, mainly due to the lack of advertisement.
@VoidofLight Yeah, but traditional Zelda players aren't the mass of the BotW crowd, that was a huge new crowd to the series, and Nintendo is plugging it hard by comparing it to being a BotW prequel. Those that played it know it's not, but the newcomers don't know that. MonHun is probably completely alien to most of that audience.
@NEStalgia That is true.. I still think that Monster Hunter Stories 2 won't be overshadowed though.
Looking forward to this. Hope they do a collector’s edition
@Beatrice Id argue it added substance rather than just spamming OP attacks to victory.
@SuperWeird it appeals to me like how chess appeals more to some people rather than sports, you can like one or both, but they don't have to be mutually exclusive.
I don't see why criticize this one spin off for doing something different, especially considering every other game in the series is action based, including the new one coming out soon.
Looks good. Capcom always seem to make the most attractive third party games on Nintendo systems.
@everynowandben I meant NEW first party stuff. Not rereleases and ports or Pokemon Company stuff (because that is not 1st party Nintendo at this point). I'm speaking to the output of 1st party NEW games vs the new games Capcom puts out (around 4 a year since 2017, tho 2020 was lite).
@Dang69 Look it up, my friend. I'm sorry to say, but even with the weird exceptions you say don't count, you're still very much mistaken.
@everynowandben It's not about me not arbitrarily counting and not counting. I'm trying to look at the pure essence of Nintendo 1st party and Capcom and compare their output of new content. Like Pokemon is it's own thing. They do what they wanna do or not and I don't see Nintendo having much say or ownership over it, outside of getting exclusivity and a piece of the profit pie. It's interesting all I'm saying - because even like Nintendo hires out KT for Hyrule Warriors or Next Level for Luigi's Mansion (even though they are a 1st party studio), and Camelot for Sports stuff. They had involvement in those games tho (whereas something like Pokemon they don't). SO if Capcom internal studios is able to output this manner of games at the frequency they do, why do we see SO much port type stuff fill out the tentpole releases on Nintendo titles for the year? That's a fair question.
@Dang69 It appears you're both incorrect and misinformed. Look it up, my friend.

The arbitrary rules you made up for what counts and what doesn't count, I disagree with. However, even counting the games that way, your statement is still factually incorrect.
@Beatrice This is something that I replied I while ago :
Personally I think that the gameplay was simple enough to grasp with enough elements for deeper strategies. It wasn't only rock/paper/ scissors which only counted for the speed/strenght/tech cycle since elemental attributes, gene tendencies and status effects have to be considered and that's just for the monster. The Rider has to consider item recovery usage, traps and attacks depending on the situation. More monster variety as well as weapon and armor types and that's more than enough for me. PvP was quite enjoyable and there were many challenging players.
It looks fantastic. Game freak you better up your standards fast as Capcom are killing it!
@BrintaPap it has a steam release coming
@tabris95 after seeing HoJo in Rise with the Tesucabra I'm hoping we get both!
@everynowandben what? all that shows up on the Nintendo page is "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page." Did you even look at it? And no those aren't arbitrary rules, I'm speaking to the core Nintendo 1st party content vs the Capcom stuff. So no Pokemon doesn't count, that's not part of Nintendo's responsibilities or is something they license out and oversee.
@Dang69 Try copy/paste. This site has issues with links that end with parathesis. I assure you that the URL I provided is accurate.
Also, since you seem to be misinformed, The Pokemon Company is owned by 3 companies: Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Inc. Nintendo also partially owns Creatures, Inc. Therefore, while none of these 3 companies are the majority owner, Nintendo does own more of The Pokemon Company than the other 2 companies. All that being said, and still counting by your arbitrary rules, you're still incorrect. I urge you to do the research - this isn't a matter of opinion. You are simply mistaken.
@everynowandben I know how the Pokemon Company works. But also in no way could Nintendo say to Gamefreak that someone else would work on the next mainline Generation game, they do not have a say in that. There is a reason that Pokemon is rarely featured as anything more than a BRIEF mention in a Direct. I believe the last time they were it was just to say there would be hot curry cooking in Sword and Shield. Trust me at least that I have looked into this A LOT and even knew about Nintendo having some ownership of Creatures. One of the old Nintendo president's was encouraged to invest in the company when they were starting out (to support better game design in the industry or something) at like 10 percent of the company to help kick it off. I knew all of this because I did state earlier "piece of the profit pie" when referring to Nintendo. Straight up not lying to you, I became interested back in 2016 when Nintendo stock fluctuated because of Pokemon Go and all that. Remember that? Investors thought Nintendo had more control of Pokemon than they did (Iwata did give some guidance on the app, but he was a golden dude like that helping everybody out).
