It's not just DOOM Eternal lighting up the Switch eShop this afternoon, as Sega's Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 also launches for the platform today.
A sequel to the original Puyo Puyo Tetris – what do you mean, you'd "figured that out already"? – this new game provides a brand-new RPG-inspired Skill Battle mode, a colourful new story and characters in Adventure mode, online features, and more. In our review, we described this one as a brilliant and entertaining puzzle title, even if it's perhaps a little too similar to the first game in some regards.
Alongside the new launch trailer above, Sega has confirmed that players "can look forward to more game features, additional characters, and more" in future free updates, and has also noted that there's a day-one patch available "to ensure that all players have the best experience possible". Make sure you update your game before diving in.
Here's what you can expect:
- Colorful crossover puzzle play for up to 4 players, online and offline
- Navigate a new overworld map in Adventure Mode and follow the all-new story adventure, as the characters traverse the merged worlds to rescue their pals from a dark corruption
- Replay stages for more rewards, experiment with different difficulty levels, test out your favorite playstyle, and unlock new characters, backgrounds, bonus stages and more
- 28 playable characters, both new and returning, each with their own unique abilities and stats
- Select characters with complementary skills in Skill Battle Mode to strategize and create the most powerful team possible and see how they stack up against your opponents
- Test out your skillset with the new online features, including challenging Puzzle Leagues, or play with up to four players in a variety of customizable matches in Free Play for a more casual experience
- Challenge modes including endless Tetris and Puyo Puyo add still more variety to solo and online play

Started my digital copy a bit over 24 hours ago and I'm about half way through the story (getting 4 star on every stage). Having a good time so far. Mostly just more of the same from the first game but it's been like three and a half years since I played that so that's not such a bad thing.
I want to see Doom Guy match Puyos.
We can force this to be a meme like we did with Animal Crossing right?
I love the first one, but I'm embarrassed to say I still haven't finished Adventure mode. I'm trying to three-star every level instead of just beating them. OCD world.
Can anyone confirm whether Swap mode is in the second? That's my favorite.
@Burning_Spear Yep. Along with all the other modes from the first game.
I love Puyo Tetris but I hate how Zed and Jay&Elle's new voice clips don't match their recycled voice clips from PPT1. It's so unnecessarily jarring when they could have just rerecorded everything instead of making it half and half.
This is still currently $33.88 on Amazon US, down from $40.
What happened to the demo?! Nothing in UK.
@Clyde_Radcliffe the demo never existed, it was just a elaborate fabrication all of us shared subconsciously
@Clyde_Radcliffe Currently only in Japan. Maybe they'll add an western demo later.
Naw. I am more than fine with the first game and Tetris 99.
Picked it up earlier today. Excited to try it out. Loved the 1st one.
@BenAV Wait, it has Swap mode?
It’s a good game, but good grief the difficulty spikes drastically without build up... they kinda expect you to be a pro midway through the thing...
@Alpha008 Do you have auto difficulty enabled? I experienced the same thing with it on. I think I was doing too well in the Tetris stages so the CPU got way harder and started to body me in Puyo Puyo but when I turned it off it went back to being super easy.
@adorabunny Yeah, Swap's still a thing.
